It was so good to see so many familiar faces at the Bournville Artisan Market yesterday. Apologies to everyone hoping to buy something that we already were sold out so quickly! We really need our own premisses back to enable us to bake more without all the unnecessary hustle. Thank you for baring with us 💛

Dorit is writing the weekly update from Loaf this week - please scroll down for a frustrating timeline of dealings with GSA…

Hello everyone,

First of all: Thank you for all the kind words and ongoing support after our last week’s newsletter, thank you for the donations and for coming along to buy from us in our pop-up shop at Deadbeat. Being a part of this community means the world to us! We keep pushing GSA to give Stirchley Cooperative Development a fair deal and to finally set up fair leases with the worker co-ops. More updates below.

Hello everyone,

Fliss here with the weekly update from Loaf, including lunch menus and pop-up timings for another week in limbo 🙃🙃🙃

We are back at Deadbeat again with Anosh Speciality Coffee this week as the wait continues for GSA to finalise the completion of the building. We will be stocked up with fresh bread, rolls, sweet and savoury bakes, cakes and our homemade lunches. It’s looking to be another hot week ahead so just a reminder that Deadbeat has air-con and is the perfect cool-spot to enjoy an iced coffee and a cinnamon bun!

A huge thank you to everyone who's been using our pre-order system. It's been a massive help while we're popping up, so if you know what you'd like, please do keep pre-ordering where you can.

Loaf Newsletter 07/07/26

Hello everyone,

it’s Dorit here with a shorter version of our newsletter and with a heads-up about McDonald’s consulting once again on their plans to build a site in Stirchley.

But first of all: Thanks to everyone who came by to our two extra pop-ups over the last weekend at CocoMAD and Grace&James. It was a big joy to see so many happy familiar and new faces and it’s being a pleasure working in so lovely environments.

This week will be warm weather again, so we are keeping our baking numbers a bit lower than usual. Please put in pre-orders if you can, so we can keep food waste and disappointment on a lower level.

Loaf Newsletter 30/06/26 - Loaf at CocoMad and Grace & James pop-up

Hello everyone,

it’s Dorit here - We still don’t have any firm moving dates to share, but we have been in talks with GreenSquareAccord and we are very hopeful that we will be moving in very soon.

There is still a big uncertainty about the sale of the building and land to the Stirchley Co-operative Development with many meetings and actions happening in the background.

Please read the article in the Guardian that has been released last week and share it with people.

Loaf stall at Grace & James postponed to next Sunday 5th July!

Hello everyone,

we have to postpone our pop up stall at Grace & James for one week to Sunday 5th of July! Big apologies to everyone who was hoping to get their hands on our bread and buns tomorrow!

If you can make it we are today from 10am (now!) at the Stirchley Community Market at the Stirchley Baths (there are plenty amazing stalls with good food, art and community groups) and we are open as usual on Saturdays from 11am at Deadbeat!

Loaf Newsletter 22/06/26 - Aircon at Breadbeat and two stalls from Loaf at the weekend!

Hello everyone,

it’s Dorit here. We don’t have any updates to share from the new building yet, but we keep going and hopes up to finally move in July in our permanent home. In the meantime you can watch a video clip with interviews from Rach and SCD house members that was aired last week.

* * *

It’s getting HOT this week, so we will change our lunch menu a bit (no Daal on Wednesday - apologies!) and adapt our baking schedule a little bit, but we will definitely be open as usual - there is an amazing air-con at Deadbeat and we think it’s one of the best places to be with an iced coffee from Anosh and a sweet treat from us.

Loaf Newsletter 15/06/26

Hello everyone,

We are pleased to inform you that we will be joining Birmingham Artisan Market on the Bournville Green on Sunday June 21st from 11-3pm selling sourdoughs, cardamom buns, cinnamon buns and let's see what the bakers can pull out of their hats - so come and say hi then!

Behind the scenes everyone keeps working on getting us into the new building, this might happen FINALLY in July. But like us you might only believe it when we are actually inside the building with keys and everything - we can’t wait to be reunited with our bakery oven, which was allowed to move in February already in expectation to just have to stay unused for a couple of weeks.

Neil gave an interview to the Birmingham Mail. The main article is behind the paywall, but some might be able to read it anyway.

Loaf Newsletter 07/06/26

Hello everyone,

it is definitely a team- and community-building time for all of us.

THANK YOU so much to everyone who has supported Loaf (and other co-ops) the last months and keeps us going. We ourselves cannot believe how long this is already going on and cannot wait to FINALLY announce: We’ve got the keys! But yeah - we are not there yet.

With June arriving another delay was announce by GSA and this put us AGAIN in the situation to ask if we can find a way to stay with our hosts for which is hopefully a final extra month. And again - Thank you to all the people from Steamhouse, Deadbeat and Anosh for letting us stay in their premisses longer than they and we could have ever imagined.

Hello everyone,

Bad news on the SCD front this week as GSA have pushed back the completion date AGAIN. It’s very frustrating, and we alongisde Artefact, Birmingham Bike Foundry and all the residents awaiting their new home are just really saddened by the way GSA have handled this whole situation. The treading water continues for another few weeks..

Thankfully thanks to Steamhouse Bakery and Deadbeat/Anosh you can continue to buy bread, sweet buns and lunches from us at Deadbeat - until further notice!

We will also be popping up at The Shed in Cotteridge park TOMROROW 31st May between 11:30am - 3pm as well as the following times at Deadbeat/Breadbeat alongside Anosh (@ 1473-1475 Pershore Road, Birmingham B30 2NT):

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your patience and support in the last months

It’s been a turbulent few months for Loaf, and we wanted to share an update on where things stand at the moment.

As many of you know, we left our previous home in February after giving our six months notice on our lease in preparation for moving into our new space at the Stirchley Co-operative Development - a project we’ve been part of shaping for over a decade alongside local residents and fellow co-ops.
