Hello everyone,
Dorit writing here - and first things first: We are still waiting for updates from GSA regarding the sign off of the building and finalizing the commercial leases, so we will keep popping up at Deadbeat. Later this month you will be able to find us again at the Bournville Artisan Market. And if that’s not enough - come and say Hi when we return to the Stirchley Community Market on the 26th of September!

Video update from one of our head bakers Rach
Last week Rach, one of our head bakers recorded an interview about how Loaf is doing at the moment. She did incredible well in explaining what is going on for us as a team and I just leave you to watch the video without any extra words from me.

Al Carns raising the case of SCD during Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government orals
Our MP Al Carns stood yesterday in the House of Commons and raised the case of Stirchley Co-operative Development during Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government orals. His work, combined with months of community advocacy, has now secured him a meeting with Matthew Pennycook, the Minister of Housing to talk about what is happening with Stirchley Co-operative Development.
A meeting with the Minister of Housing is a chance to make the case for co-operative and community-led homes — to advocate for the importance of democratic participation in housing, economic democracy in the workplace, and communities having a genuine stake in the places they live and work. I met with Al Carns a few times and spoke to him about how difficult the last months have been for all of us and I think he does what lies in his power to support SCD and the worker co-ops involved. We thank him and his team for their continued support. This is an incredible opportunity to share our story, and we look forward to the out coming of the meeting.
I am working at the moment on creating a separate update page from Loaf and included his video on this page.

Fundraiser
Fionnuala, aged 32 and a friend of our baker Rach passed away in June. Rach asked if Loaf could share the fundraiser her family set up to raise money for a charity in Fionnuala’s memory. Throughout her illness, she was cared for by the Teenage and Young Adult Cancer (TYAC) team at Royal Surrey Hospital.
To honour Fionnuala’s memory, a group of family and friends (and dogs, of course) are coming together to take part in Royal Surrey’s annual Stride for Cancer Care walk, a few of Loaf’s regulars are among those walking it. And together, they will each walk 25km to raise money for the vital services provided by Royal Surrey.
This walk is about remembering Fionnuala and celebrating the person that she was, whilst saying thank you to the team who looked after her.
Every donation to the fundraiser, no matter how big or small, will help Royal Surrey to continue providing specialist cancer care and support to patients and their families.

It’s Sourdough September!
The Real Bread Campaign was launched in 2008 with the mission to find and share ways to make bread better for all of us, better for our communities and better for the planet. It’s work includes the annual, international Real Bread Week and Sourdough September.
This year, the Real Bread Campaign is keeping Sourdough September super simple. Their call to all is to dough (their pun - not mine!) just one thing: swap whatever bread you normally make or buy for genuine sourdough. Just once. That’s all.
If you want to do a bit more to support the real bread campaign you could get one of the limited edition ‘Loaf of Your Life’ t-shirt, apron or mug (even if you might actually call us the loaf of your life …).
This month also marks the 10th anniversary of their Slow Dough: Real Bread recipe book, which you would usually find in our shelves, but if you can’t wait until we are back with our own shop please go ahead and support them by purchasing one of the books.

Woodland Games this Saturday!!!
Finally - The Woodland Games return on Saturday 12th September! This year the Woodland Games is hosted by the incredible Birmingham Brewing Company. The games the brave and heroic teams are playing will take place along the River Rea! Main organisers are Dale Hipkiss and Johnny Graney, who you might know from Artefact. And they say ‘this years’s event might be smaller but we really missed not doing the games last year and we hope to see lots of you there and we’ll have a fun Saturday with live music from the Artefact House Band and DJ sets from kikimorarecords’. Remembering it as one of my personal highlights in 2024 I won’t miss it for sure!

No set lunch menu!
We will be assessing our lunch options each day and ask you to check our Instagram and Facebook stories for updates. Or just pop around to the shop and see what we’ve got!

Pre-order Info
➡️ Click HERE to pre-order bread and buns for Wednesday till Saturday. If you don’t want to pre-order that’s alright, we always have more to sell, but we try not to let anything go to waste, so pre-orders are very helpful.

Thanks so much to STEAMHOUSE for their continued support in letting us use a corner of their bakery in Redditch - we honestly do not know what we would have done without their generosity. 💛 💛 💛

Thanks for all the continued support & see you soon!
