When we decide what to work on and what to prioritize, the vast majority of projects and enhancements come from customers. This makes sense: if you were to tally up all of the hours spent by customers in Buttondown, it dwarfs the amount of hours spent by us, the humble engineering staff. But there must be room for whimsy and what can be uncharitably described as irrational decision-making.
For instance! I welcomed a daughter into my life last year. As such, I'm suddenly much more conscious of bright lights. Historically, I haven't really cared about dark mode. It has now suddenly taken on a more urgent and important role lest I accidentally blind myself tapping into Buttondown's very bright white interface. And successfully spring Lucy to the crib.
You can now start using dark mode by going to the help pop out in the bottom left corner of the sidebar. We'll be formally taking it out of beta in September, as I'm sure there are a handful of edge cases and rarely visited components that we've missed.
(Next up: dark mode support for the archives!)
