Localization

Buttondown supports multiple languages and regional date formats for subscriber-facing content.

Invalid Date

Buttondown lets you set a locale for your newsletter so that all subscriber-facing content—confirmation emails, subscription pages, date formatting—appears in the right language and format for your audience.

Supported languages

We currently support:

  • Czech (cs-CZ)
  • Dutch (nl-NL)
  • English (US) — dates formatted as MM/DD/YYYY
  • English (UK) — dates formatted as DD/MM/YYYY
  • English (Australia) — dates formatted as DD/MM/YYYY
  • English (Canada) — dates formatted as YYYY-MM-DD
  • French (fr)
  • German (de)
  • Polish (pl-PL)
  • Portuguese (Brazil) (pt-BR)
  • Spanish (es)
  • Turkish (tr)

What gets localized?

When you set a locale, the following are translated or formatted accordingly:

  • Confirmation emails — the email subscribers receive when they sign up
  • Subscription success pages — the page shown after confirming
  • Unsubscription pages — when a subscriber clicks unsubscribe
  • Email footers — the standard "unsubscribe" and "view online" links
  • Date and time formatting — in your dashboard and in emails

Setting your locale

Head to your newsletter settings and look for the "Locale" dropdown. Pick the language and regional variant that best matches your audience.

If your language isn't listed, let us know—we're always looking to expand our localization support.

Buttondown is the last email platform you’ll switch to.
