I'm a programmer and designer from Utah. I've been making apps and websites for about 15 years. I love art, design, graffiti, bicycles, and esoteric computer science stuff.
My newsletter touches on various topics, including programming language development, society, economics, art, design, and large deep dives into pop culture phenomena that I am fascinated with.
I also wanted to use a product that wasn't run by a mega corporation. Buttondown checked all these boxes.
Years ago, I was looking for an easy way to just capture emails for a newsletter. I wasn't sure what I wanted to write or share. I also wanted to use a product that wasn't run by a mega corporation. Buttondown checked all these boxes. It was easy to use and looked pretty great, as well.
Buttondown's email collection and administration interface made it easy to build my list. I could drop a sign-up form anywhere on the web, and I often did. Spammy emails and fake subscribers never made it through. Only real people with a real interest in my writing. Pretty important for a newsletter named SPAM.
I never felt limited when using Buttondown. It's reliable in a very reassuring way.
I can customize embedded forms pretty easily, but I'd love to customize the design of my newsletter link/landing page. I tend to customize everything I use, and I think it would be fun as hell. I'm very happy with Buttondown.
I use Buttondown very differently. I've migrated my email list a couple of times, and I have more than one list. Buttondown is adaptable and has made it easy for me to grow consistently in the way that I wanted. I never felt limited when using Buttondown. It's reliable in a very reassuring way.
