Summer is gradually coming to an end as we soon enter the middle of “Manageable heat” (処暑 Shosho) division: “Heat starts to die down” (天地始粛 Tenchi hajimete samushi). Out of the 72 microseasons this will be the 41st, which starts on Friday August 28th.

It was wonderful seeing everyone at the always insprining Typographics Conference, which CJ Type proudly sponsored. I was able to connect with amazing designers from around the world and am already looking forward to next year. The summer solstice has now passed, and this weekend marks the start of the 29th microseason “Irises bloom.” The CJ Type library is also blooming with new styles.

Currently in Tokyo, a new microseason in the “Autumn equinox” (秋分 Shūbun) division has begun: Thunder ceases (雷乃収声 Kaminari sunawachi koe o osamu.) Out of the 72 microseasons this is the 46th.

If you’re looking for fun summer vibes, look no further than Velzyland. The good folks at Adidas Skateboarding chose Velzyland for the titles of their skate video PARAÍSO, which features Felipe Gustavo, Vincent Milou and Miles Silva. It’s a beautifully shot video that reminds me of countless summer days skating with friends from first light until late into the night.
