Webhooks for exports

December 26, 2024

Some features are whizbang — genuinely exciting, game-changing additions to Buttondown's surface area that radically transform how you use the tool.

Others are, uh, more esoteric. More mundane, perhaps.

"Webhooks for exports" is one of those esoteric features. Our statistics show that not that many of you use webhooks (they're a niche feature!), and the venn diagram of people who use webhooks and people who use exports is... well, small.

And yet! The use case still exists, for programmatic export access, and the process of long-polling for exports has always been a bit of a pain, so we've added three new webhook types to help out:

  • export.created
  • export.completed
  • export.failed

Now when you want to regularly export your subscribers (say for a monthly content backup, or a weekly sync with a data warehouse or some other exogenous system), you can set up a webhook to get notified when the export is ready, and just grab the URL from there.
