Use keywords to align with the ATS
Most companies nowadays use Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) to streamline their hiring processes and improve applicant data analysis and management.
To have better chances of going through their systems, it would help to align your cover letter with the job description on the job ad.
Get the most important keywords (both hard and power skills) from the job ad and use them on your cover letter. Just make sure to tailor your cover letter appropriately for easy reading.
Share what you heard in the news
Supposed you read or heard in the news about a certain company’s recent success. It sparked your interest so you went ahead and researched about this company.
Looking at the Careers section on their official website, you found a job ad that fits your current role.
You can actually tailor your cover letter to tell a story of how you got interested in applying for the job. But in case there’s no job ad but you are eager to work there, you may also send an expression of interest.
An expression of interest (EOI) shows that you’re genuinely keen to work in the organization. Doing this will leave a positive impression on hiring managers.
