The punk paper returns next week - subscribe, find a copy, Get To The Gig

The template for Another Subculture, as my cat Xerox (yes, really) looks on

Hello again, paper punk rockers. A brief return to the newsletter for the newsletter to tell you that Another Subculture will return next week, with listings for September 2025.

I’ve had my break, swapped a few things around in life and brain, and miss keeping track of what’s been happening - although I still recommend DIY Listings London, Eroding Empire and the London Sound Index for their loud night collating! - so the punk paper’s returning to an easy A4 two-colour pick me up, where the aim remains to fit as many gigs, and indeed words and pictures, that the average punter is still able to read on the bus home.

So, here is the plan going forward!

December's DIGITAL LISTINGS out now - thank you for a Good Weekend

Hello, paper punks.

Hope everyone is keeping warm, keeping busy and plotting all sorts of nonsense for the festive season. I slept for two days after the big weekend and then took part in a powerlifting competition, which is something I did not think I’d be saying this time last year, cor blimey.

December's listings.

December’s issue is out now - a heads up that this one is online only; got caught up in Attempting Something and figured I’d concentrate on resting up and working out what I want to do with Another Subculture in 2025. More of the same with a little more planning, I reckon, plus a bit more Journalism and getting mates involved (is this you, give me a bell, etc).

November 2024 listings out now, ATTEMPTING SOMETHING tickets are SELLING

Another Subculture, Sel Out London and a few other zines in the freesheet pile at Dash the Henge's record store in Camberwell.
Amongst the free sheets at Dash the Henge

Hello, paper punks. The mist has descended, we’re nearly at bonfire night and I am trying my best to tune out the American Events by looking how to add flash storage to an iPod Mini. (Much thanks to The Shop and DankPods.)

The November 2024 issue of Another Subculture is out in the world: in the post for subscribers, at anothersubculture.co.uk and the usual haunts in south and east London, where I managed to turn up with the copies just after someone had asked for them, two days in a row? London, too big.

On the back page there is the first post-gig interview I’ve done in a while after the hyper super Sonic punks Billiam and the Split Bills rolled through town. The king is called a ‘shit cunt’ and we talk about Shadow Generations - it’s what you’d expect from us two if you know either of us, really.

September 2024 listings out now + Attempting Something weekend passes

Hello, paper punks.

This month's listings in situ on the window of Atlantis Records, Hackney
The grid in situ: Atlantis Records, other end of Mare Street

Meteorological autumn is here, and that’s fine. The September listings are available now, having been posted to subscribers and distributed to the usual spots (and a couple of new ones) over the weekend: as ever, get to BOOKS or Tome or WASTE or Dash this week and pick one up, or download right here. Particular thanks to PageMasters for printing in their new Bubblegum Pink riso colour, although if you ate the calendar it will not stay with you for six years. (Is that bollocks? I bet that’s bollocks.)

A page of PageMasters' latest swatch sampler, including Kelly Green, Yellow, Sunflower, Orange, Red and Bubble Gum colours.
I will be returning to that Kelly Green in due course.

August 2024 listings OUT NOW + weekends upcoming + buy my bag

Hello, paper punks.

Free local newspaper kiosk, with this month's zine in place
It’s not littering, it’s informing.

Taking a little advantage of last month’s listings taking us up until today so apologies for the late update but August’s Another Subculture listings are available now - in all the usual places be they BOOKS or Waste or on the website. As ever, subscribers’ copies were in the post as soon as I recieved them last Friday, and if you’ve got a space that could do with some biodegradable listings filling up the place, give me a shout and they’ll be sent your way.

I always assume that August is a quieter month, the allure of ‘not London’ calling, but yeah there’s about 60 events in this month’s calendar, including the usual brace of gigs but also a BBQ, a small press festival in London’s best comic shop, a few favourite club nights and a five day free festival down by the Ravensbourne. Loads!

Hello, paper punks.

Summer is here, the football is blocking out the election in about two thirds of my brain (would it have been funny if England were knocked out just before the polls, yes it would; Switzerland, best of luck!) and of course there’s loads to see. July’s listings are out now - subscribers will have theirs in the post but you can download the grid for your fridge here.

June's listings, on a council services grade carpet.
There it is!

Hello, paper punks. A quick update this month - June 2024's listings are in the post, out and about and online for you to download. 75+ events this time, plenty of benefits and the final chance to get to a Static Shock Gig abound (thanks for sending people my way Ellis, now get some rest!). Tried something slightly different and harked back to the work printer mode with the Letraset, there's photos from a nice gig at Lewisham Arthouse I went to in May (with Fluid Tower & Lobby), plus there's some good chats with Dead Name and Marcel Wave on the back, both being bands I'm excited to see this month!

April punk gig listings out now + Damage is Done + Static Shock Weekend interviews

April's listings in the WASTE! cave
April's listings in the WASTE! cave

Hello, paper punks. This month's listings are out now - online here and across south and east London in the usual spots (BOOKS, Tome, WASTE!, New River, World of Echo, all sorts) - Patreon subscribers have theirs in the post, join them!

This month's paper:

Sixty events on the grid this month - the usual mixture of gigs and club nights and maybe a film or two - plus for maybe the first time, an event every night this week starting from April Fools' Day. A friend pitched the idea of them going to seven gigs in seven days so perhaps I'll remind them if they have a spare £80.

March punk gig listings + Matchstick Piehouse + Hillsy's Video Zine

March's punk post listings, ready to pick up from the printer

Hello, paper punks.

Realised I hadn't sent an update about this month's listings yet, but it's been a silly couple of weeks - moved from one end of Lewisham to another and there is now somewhere you could call an HQ (👀) to spend an evening putting paper in envelopes without taking over the bedroom, so we are truly back on track.

The March issue has as least been on fridges, handed to Framtid survivors and posted to Patreons far and wide already, so if you haven't gotten your hands on the teal page and read the behind the scenes chat with two of the Damage is Done collective, then go to TOME, Waste!, BOOKS and the usual places in between.

February 2024 listings OUT NOW - more paper, venues to save, video zines

A wet fanzine

Evening, paper punks. Once again a little late with the monthly reminders but glad to say that February's Another Subculture listings has been mailed, distributed and soaked in Signature Brew (and why is it always them?) over the past few days. Back in its original A3 form, it can be found in record shops, the odd gig (see you at The Tubs on Wednesday) and in the letterboxes of subscribers. You can still download the listings and keep up to speed on Instagram, but the back page will wait until next month to go online. Incentives!

For March, expect another interview, the return of Creg Clarrrk's Out and About column and whatever else is fit to print. Get your events in over the next fortnight, get in contact if you would like to place an ad (£25 for a business card sized graphic, £1 for a classified; email me!) and if you have some news to share - a fundraiser, a book group, a new reason to buy a skateboard - I want to get it out there.

Another Subculture - FEBRUARY soon, listings/news/adverts wanted

PAPER IN PROGRESS

Hello, paper punks. A quick email for you this week: I am working on the February 2024 edition of Another Subculture – going back to the original A3 riso newsletter combo – and if you have anything you'd like included on the back page you have a week to send it through. We're talking:

  • Gig listings - use the submit form here.

  • "News", classifieds, signal boosts - there will be a column with news of upcoming events, releases, campaigns, fundraisers and the like - as long as it's from Punk World and is ideally non-profit. Expect to see venues new and old popping up in here in the coming months. Email hello@anothersubculture.co.uk with your tips.

  • Classified adverts - bringing back an idea from 2019 here: give me a pound and whatever you put in the description on PayPal I will print like it's the back of the NME in 1997.

  • Regular adverts - as always, to help with the printing and postage now I've given up the work photocopier. Email me if you're interested.

Your deadline for all of the above: a week today, Tuesday 23rd January 2024.

Another Subculture 2024 - NEW PAPER coming soon

Scan of the January 2024 mockup issue (front)

Happy new year, paper punks. Can I still say that on Twelfth Night? Is it even Twelfth Night – anyway. I hope you all had a peaceful and fun festive period and now it's time to get headaches again. A quick announcement:

From February 2024 the listings will be back in public circulation at the usual spots across the city, and Another Subculture will return to the original, pre-chaos format of A3, risographed, and with interviews, photos, columns, gossip and whatever else you came to expect in Alternative Strategies one giant page at a time. Getting it all into gear again is exciting and may even become more manageable, and it will be good to try and capture what's been going on in a more regular fashion.

ALTERNATIVE STRATEGIES #4 OUT NOW - Static Shock, Juliet Jacques, Mega-City One

The cover of Alternative Strategies #4

Hello, paper punks. One more issue for this calamity year! The fourth issue of Alternative Strategies is available now on the Another Subculture website, at PageMasters' Winter Fair this weekend at the South London Gallery and in shops/distros in the coming days.

More punk paper. 40-page riso zine looking back and wondering where we go from here.

Static Shock Weekend is remembered through a post-festival pint with Tom Ellis and photos and art from Leigh Arthur and Lukas Fraser; we interview Juliet Jacques about her new play We Need To Talk, the headrush that was 2017 and the usefulness of post punk forty years on; PC World’s William Dante Deacon interviews Michael Molcher about the links between Judge Dredd, Mega-City One and the history and affect of British policing. There are also exclusive comics from JMKE, Jonny Brokenbrow, Leomi Sadler & Richard Short and columns from Tom Oberst and Creg Clarrrk.

The gig poster on a bus shelter

Hello, paper punks. It's been a busy couple of weeks and it is now time to put on #NOTAFEST. Another Subculture is 10 is this weekend - Friday at Spanners until 2am, and then an all dayer on the Saturday over at Nunhead's Ivy House. Line-up is huge, noise will be played, come on down.

You haven't got long to get advance tickets: until midnight tonight (23/11) for Friday and until midnight tomorrow (24/11) for Saturday! There will be tickets on the door - a couple quid more, although no-one turned away for lack of funds of course. NOVEMBER listings out now - OUTSIDER ART and TEN YEARS GIGS coming up soon

November's AS calendar zine; PDF is available on the website
November's grid; download here.

Hello, paper punks. It has been a month on the micro and the macro - but as ever, there will be gigs: November's listings are online, in the post for Patreons and appearing in the usual record shops, venues, and gigs across London post-haste.

One thing about this month's issue is that I have included information about already announced protests for Palestine and an immediate ceasefire; Another Subculture supports the work of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign and other organisations working to get people on the streets, writing to MPs and keeping up the pressure to demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, and I have included information about announced marches/actions in the grid this month; where more events and directions to take action appear, they will be shared in the usual places.

There are, as you can expect, plenty of gigs and nights that are raising money for aid and towards medical organisations such as Medical Aid for Palestine, MSF and The Red Cross/Crescent and I have pointed out these where if you want to get your event promoted by AS then of course send it through via the website.

SEPTEMBER listings out now - see you at PageMasters' zine fair (& Cahyati Press)

September's listings on a photocopierHello, paper punks.

This is the month where everything gets colder and wetter and there's like a festival or an alldayer every week. Tomorrow (1st September) there's the Fuzzbrain extravaganza Hoodstock at Colour Factory, there's a weekend of sheer noise and grindcore at Chimpyfest next weekend and then after that, oh boy, the final Static Shock Weekend. Got a plan to "document" it — take some photos, get some vox pops — so if you're going and want me to record your substance-enhanced thoughts and feelings come find the big guy with the MiniDisc hat.

Took the day off work and got the September listings in some of the usual spots around London, so go find if you're heading to BOOKS, World of Echo, All Ages, the Record & Book Bar down West Norwood way and more besides; you can also download the PDF right now. Patreon people got theirs early, so sign up there to get the post! Much to enjoy this month, had to get the thin text out for all those line-ups too, whew...

SUBMISSIONS OPEN for Alternative Strategies #4 - what's excited you?

Submissions are open (all details in newsletter below)

Hello, paper punks!

The next issue of Alternative Strategies is under way.

Having spent the last issue talking about the underlying foundations, histories, issues and all that’s wonderful and frustrating about The Punky in London, I want to go back to chatting to bands, reviewing gigs and spelling out what the battle lines are at the present moment. On the one side, we are seeing the end of a lot of institutions that blossomed over the 2010s: Static Shock Weekend ends this September, and Pump It Up/Ready Eye called it a day just last month; venues, shops and promoters are packing up;  what remains of the good music media remains in a precarious state. It’s been rough!

AUGUST punk gig listings online - long live Scunthorpe - ALT S submissions open

This month's listings

Hello, paper punks, and happy August! After a busy busy month, it's time for another monthly calendar - you can now download the latest version online and print copies will be in the letterboxes of subscribers by now too. Paperboy mode will be engaged over the coming days including at a few gigs here and there over the next few weeks.

As is expected, it looks like there's an all-dayer and an excuse for a BBQ every weekend in the month, and while the international festival routines have simmered down we're still seeing packed lineups and banging club nights all the way through so go find your evenings in the yellow pages!

So what of July? Started it on holiday over in Oakland, California watching Mika Miko (and ESG, Gravy Train!!!, Warp) in the not quite heat - only to return on a flight one day and get straight on a six hour train the next for Glasgow Zine Fest. I was nervous about turning up with my London-centric media but it was a great weekend, albeit one of those where you're tabling, sleeping, tabling, home. A bit like touring if you think about it! There was also the Current Affairs night at the Lexington too; gig of the year contender right there.

JULY gig listings out now - plus zine fairs in Other Cities

Hello, paper punks. Hope you've had a bountiful and not-too-bloody-hot June, which has if anything been my favourite month of gigs so far this year with Physique, Ribbon Stage, Gamma, Keno, R.Aggs and Screaming Females (and that's with me missing Sial, Savageheads and DJ Travella, fuck!) Will this momentum last with homegrown bands this summer... well, let's have a look:

July's Another Subculture listings - PDF with searchable text/OCR on the website.

July's listings are online now – a little early, and with nearly 60 events spanning punk, hardcore, electronic nonsense, experimental days and club nights across the capital. This page was printed earlier than usual and another run will be done soon, so if I've missed your event there's still time to get it online: email me, and don't forget the DIY Listings London website too. Hard copies are going to be at BOOKS Peckham with others sent to All Ages, Rough Trade and World of Echo too, and will be at gigs wherever I am.

Anyway! I'm going on holiday tomorrow so will be 'out-of-office' until Monday 10th July. (This means that if you want to grab a zine, it won't be posted until then, so go find in the city!) Out of the country and then back for Glasgow Zine Fest, where I'm excited to be tabling all weekend, although a bit worried about jet lag and selling London-centric media, but there we go.

Third punk paper. 48-page riso zine giving the scaffolding a good shake. UPSET THE RHYTHM ruminate on their two decades of putting gigs on under the same banner, and we talk to LIZ PELLY about whether underground music can resist being moulded by streaming and ‘the Mood Machine’.

And then there are reviews, photos from gigs across the city and a comic where GAME destroys the New Cross Inn. Loads and loads.

MAY calendar out now - HRH SIR PRINCE CHARLES

May's calendar in a patriotic estate agent's window, Hackney

Hello paper punks - a new month, three bank holidays, ol' sausage fingers getting coronated (is that the word?) and there's still lots of Loud Noises to consider. The May calendar zine is out now - in Patreon supporters' letterboxes, out and about (at Books Peckham, World of Echo, Crypt of the Wizard, WASTE, Waiting Room SE8 and more) and you can download a PDF on the website too. The extra bank holiday is looking particularly busy, whether it's the MOT rave on the big day to BIB supported by a cast of thousands on Monday 8th, cor blimey. And of course, there's First Timers at the end of the month - the festival where every band plays their first set and has given us bands like Big Joanie, Primetime, Charmpit, Breakup Haircut and many more...

On the back, I've given that side over to Sister Midnight, who are in the thick of getting a new venue readied for opening, we can hope, at the end of the year in the centre of Catford, just south of Lewisham. Always a pleasure hosting, playing and going to gigs in their shop in Deptford before the pandemic and can't wait to see what their plans are for the new spot, so have a look on their website, become a shareholder and see how you can get involved.

What else is happening: as my alter ego as one half of Repetitive Strain I'm co-hosting Pink Pound & Vaiapraia at Matchstick Piehouse on Friday, and Alternative Strategies #3 will be going to press this month, so hold tight for more info there. Mainly just to enjoy this acceptable temperature and not get too burnt - so far I have successed in one of these...

Take care, keep rockin' in the free world, get to the gig - - B P / A S

Hello, paper punks. Happy New Year if you're reading this after a Saturday night to forget the general state of the past twelve months - I keep saying that in the micro, it's been a good 2022 even if the macro has been ever more concerning, upsetting and tedious.

If you're reading this and it's still New Year's Eve and you need somewhere to go: I'd recommend the Ivy House in Nunhead, Soft Landing at the Avalon Cafe, Marquis of Granby in New Cross, Rhythm Section's night at Corsica Studios, Biddle's Bar up in Clapton (Alec from Skitter's DJing), Venom & Leather at Helgi's and having a nice good sleep if all else fails.

DECEMBER PUNK GIG LISTINGS out now - zine fair this weekend - FLO/STREAMING archive

Hello, everyone! Quick monthly update about the quick monthly update: the December (and therefore Festive) one-sheet is out now, and can be downloaded at anothersubculture.co.uk. Decided that red paper was worth a go - this may look great with the toner shining in the winter sun, but perhaps isn't the most readable, hmm - but these are going out to Patreons in the post (these may be delayed due to the strikes; read up on the CWU website here - solidarity to every striking worker in this chaos country!)

It's Christmas, come buy paper:

Dulwich Hamlet THIS FRIDAY, Lower Grand Radio, Christmas FAIRS

Hello, paper punks. Why is it this warm still? Probably fine.

A quick email to make you aware of a couple of past, present and future events to keep you tiding over. Everything is pivoting to Christmas and end of year lists that really do just look like shopping lists and I'm going to be compiling the December listings over the coming days - let's see if that second half drop-off continues and not because of The Disease. If you have New Year plans or just want to put on a gig where you can cover the Greedies, then submit your event on the website before Tuesday 22nd November.

Get to the gig This Friday: leather.head, Joy-Rides, Gross Misconduct at Dulwich Hamlet FC

November LISTINGS, Dulwich Hamlet GIG, kick your TELLY in

Hello again, paper punks.

Still a bit of a mess out there, hope you're keeping steady - been going out more, seeing the sights and getting the colds. The booster's in my arm and the plans are in the brain, even if out there everyone seems a little knackered and wondering how not to lose money while promoting (or renting, or breathing in London?) Going to see Special Interest tonight so that'll solve everything for what, twenty minutes? And there's a fair bit to update you on, starting with:

ANOTHER SUBCULTURE at the Anarchist Bookfair this weekend + Alternative Strategies out now

maybe_.jpg

Hello again, punk papers.

A quick one while I recover from Static Shock Weekend: Alternative Strategies' autumn 2022 issue is out now and I'll be getting some distro copies out in the world throughout September. But I'm starting shipping orders from tomorrow, so buy one RIGHT NOW.

I will also be tabling at the Anarchist Bookfair zine zone at the Freedom Bookshop in Whitechapel this coming Saturday (17th September). Entry is free, I'll have new and old zines and whatever merchandise I still have ready for you - come down, get some seditious literature, save a few quid on postage. If you've got zines and want a table, email Pete (of BOOKS fame) at books@books-peckham.com but be quick!

Hello, paper punks.

submit-front.png

Alternative Strategies #2 is looking for submissions, letters, adverts and any/all ideas that illustrate the world of London Loud Noises.

With the success of issue one (there are ten copies left in my possession and you can find a copy in London, Leeds, Glasgow, Bristol, Nantes and San Diego - with some of those stockists running out fast!) we've had some great ideas and plans are afoot to get them in your hands, with a prospective 'on the table' deadline of Static Shock Festival and a printing deadline of mid-August. 32+ pages, a couple of surprises and a new colour scheme. Here's how you can get involved:

ALTERNATIVE STRATEGIES AT THE AVALON CAFE - 26 June 2022 with Fluid Tower/Middleman/Skitter/Sniffany and the Nits/Vanity Crystal + issue one almost gone!

add93c6d-e338-4377-ac15-c82934d0ded6.jpeg

Hello, paper punks.

Hope you've all enjoyed the long weekend in a bunting-free way - in what feels like the largest choice of gigs in London since the Virus, I ended up seeing Lysol, Lorraine James, Jessy Lanza, The Annihilated and Es four days on the trot, before only getting out of bed yesterday in order to toast Wales, Grimsby Town and [redacted]. Knackered, forgot my earplugs, happy. Covid-free, mercifully (keep those lateral flows to hand!) So with that in mind, let's give this a go:

Another Subculture presents the first ALTERNATIVE STRATEGIES AFTERNOON, a daylight gig to celebrate the longest week, at the AVALON CAFE on Sunday 26th June. Doors 3pm, done by 9.

ALTERNATIVE STRATEGIES - a new risozine, out now

finished-1-small.png

Been a while, paper punks.

Another Subculture presents Alternative Strategies #1, a quarterly riso zine with 32 pages of interviews done outside venues and over powerlines, features on Pico-8s, cameo appearances and pop epiphanies, new routes to New River Studios and a cycle through the red metropolis. 'Punk' people writing about whatever they like, on the back of a lockdown of zine swaps, inaccurate listings pages and many, many ink cartridges.

Another Subculture - HAPPY NEW YEAR

nye.png

Hello paper punks, how we doing?

It's New Year's Eve, everybody has Covid and I'm planning an evening of walking up a hill to get a good view of the midnight drone display, just as it forms into the only lateral flow stick left in the city. 2021 has been a wild ride, but you could say it was better than last year mind, kind of - there were gigs, for one...

Another Subculture - this week's noises - October 11-17 2021

email-header.png IMG_3820.png

Hello, paper punks. Another week of looking at the Halloween listings and wondering what costume to go as and how many spooky Desperados I will inevitably buy on the second off licence run. (What's your CHAOS BEVERAGE?)

Quick update this week to say that, somehow, I have run out of October issues and so if you want a paper copy, go get one in your favourite record store (as long as it's Aaja Deptford, Disc World, World of Echo, Tome Records, Crypt of the Wizard, Books Peckham, Duplikat Press, The Horse Hospital or Green Onions) or with your COTW or Maggot Death internet order. (Or if you want a PDF, let me know.) As ever, well excited that people are digging the listings and will be printing more for November - still time to get involved or send your gig too, postcards to the usual address.

Couple of updates: if you're reading this tonight (that's Monday 11th), Sister Midnight have a livestream Q&A over Zoom which is worth tuning in if you're wondering about their crowdfunder; World of Echo, esteemed good shop and advert taker, are celebrating their birthday at Cafe OTO on Friday 14th; Good Night Out are hiring a part-time Operations Coordinator. Enjoy these links, and go to these gigs.

Another Subculture - October issue + this week's loud noises

243975561_3133431443606443_3192891508449219971_n.jpg

All tricks, all treats. October's Another Subculture is now available.

On time and heading to a space or letterbox near you, this month's issue has over 40 gigs, events, livestreams, club nights and radio shows at your disposal. Few more central gigs, the south eastern bias continues (want to help counter that, get in touch), the front is a tribute to a bus stop. More importantly, there's a chat with Sister Midnight whose exciting crowdfunding campaign to save The Ravensbourne Arms in Lewisham is live right now, there's photos from the last burst of summer - Carl Farrugia at the Folkestone Gardens summer skate jam, and friend of the zine Creg Clarrrk is back with his Out and About column. This month I'm looking forward to getting colder, buying more records and dressing up as Sexy Master System and doing a mosh to Game.

If you are a subscriber, I am happy to say your copy is already in the post - this month in lovely orange and red, cheers Pagemasters - and will be appearing at stockists across London soon. As ever, if you have a space, mailorder or cybershop and you want copies to distribute, email me and they're yours. The zine will always be free to pickup, but subscribers have been instrumental in keeping this going, with the past couple months' support in particular meaning it's finally breaking even. Join them here...

Hello, paper punks. Welcome to that part of the month where the last minute announcements haven't made the print edition and everyone wonders about what the holidays will bring. Fests, mainly. And flu jabs. I look forward to one and then the other!

I'm putting together October's issue this weekend, although as you would perhaps expect with the uncertainty and the case rates going down and up and down again, I can't see much in terms of Halloween nights being organised. Hopefully I'm wrong, and hopefully you're not planning on dressing up a Chris Whittey so if you see a spooky event - IRL, online, punk, DIY, whatever - email hello@anothersubculture.co.uk or get in touch through the socials.

Hello, paper punks. Got this month's newsletter? Rolled off the fine presses of Pagemasters into my hurried hands and you will be finding them in various places around the capital (like last Thursday's Trash Kit gig, which was obviously a joy - and the usual nice places once I get around town this weekend). A plan for October is to send them to get printed with more than six hours to go in the month - bit like Peter Saville in 24 Hour Party People isn't it? A road to perhaps avoid.

As ever, a big thank you to New Patreons and people buying badges and papers - edging closer to not losing money on the grid of gigs. This is also maybe when each week's email will arrive - before work ends on a Thursday, prime nearly weekend time, something like that, here goes...

Another Subculture - September issue + this week's loud noises

The grid of gigs. September's Another Subculture is now available.

This month, having had a break (and moving house and going to the first IRL events in 18 months), we've got a calendar, some lovely illustrations from the legend Toby Evans-Jerra (illustrator for many an event around London, including this Sister Midnight fundraiser, alongside being part of Speed Training) and about 27 or so gigs for you to consider. The back this month has reviews of Concrete Culture, Gob Nation's all dayer, Nicky's Avalon debut and that survey for you to actually fill in.

In typical style the riso version is being printed now, and will be mailed out to every Patreon subscriber and any of you who fancy buying one online and supporting the endeavour. Otherwise, find them IRL at your favourite stockist soon, and if you are going to tonight's Trash Kit gig there might be some contraband work printer copies winging their way to the merch stand. Who knows!

Another Subculture - July 2021 issue out now

More paper! July's Another Subculture is now available.

This month, the calendar is enhanced by Josephine M. K. Edwards (of Sniffany and the Nits) with "a positive and happy message for a fantastic time to be alive!"; the back page contains a miniature grid of events that will happen and a great interview with Ben Spence of Fuzzbrain Music about his year, Fuzzbrain Fuckery, the scene that's gravitated up east and next month's all-dayer Hoodfest. I simply cannot wait.

A nice page of risograph (this month it's sea foam and red, cheers Pagemasters) that you will be able to find in the usual places (and I'd like to get the zine in more places, give me a bell), or you can order a copy to your door or subscribe to the Patreon; the latter two help cover the costs and makes you an exciting person. Who knows, I might even give you a copy at the PC World gig or the Avalon Cafe art fair. IRL, eh?

Another Subculture: Delayed Plans Zone

Hello, paper punks. An update to keep you going while I have a long weekend and get the July calendar all together.

New Dates

Obviously, everything has shifted a bit but keep your tickets as I haven't actually seen any cancellations, which is rather nice. I'm going through every event in the June calendar in order, starting from tonight - Saturday you're in luck, the rest see you next month:

Another Subculture - June 2021 issue out now

Oi! ANOTHER SUBCULTURE has returned.

Another Subculture - June GIF

Thank you for subscribing to the newsletter's newsletter. Regular service will kick in from next week (Monday 7th June) where a sort of pattern will begin - changes to events listed in Another Subculture, nice links, anything else that's fit to chuck into your inbox.

For now, a quick plug for the paper version: you can now pick up the June 2021 issue either online or IRL (the latter beginning in Peckham's BOOKS Peckham and branching out over the coming weeks; if some of these events listed this month actually occur you can find copies there!). The zine is free from stockists; by buying copies you're shoring up funds for future issues.
