The final issue of the punk paper – out now

2026-09-01

This is the final issue of Another Subculture.

Hello again, paper punks. Starting this email with an announcement: the final issue of Another Subculture, as a monthly listings zine, is out now. Print subscribers, yours should be arriving in your letterbox imminently and the whole thing can be downloaded on the website too. On the front: The T.S.G. raising a toast; on the back, some instructions for making your own media.

Putting the punk paper has been a joy, a headache, a thrill once more - but it has been increasingly challenging to keep up, capture every aspect of Idiot Music that this capital somehow still provides, and keep ignoring the fact that a first class stamp has doubled in price since I made issue one. Add in a few late months and the awareness that I'm just not getting out to gigs as I used to... and it just felt like now is a good time to call it a day.

What excites me now is that I can send you in so many directions to find gigs and like minded rockers going forward - DIY LISTINGS LONDON, SELOut, Pindrop Zine, GEL and many more are showing how we can share our own scenes off-platform and in your pocket. Nothing like this existed when I started in 2019, and I am thrilled to see this become something of a trend across cities and scenes.

This will not be the end of me creating zines, either. There are some ideas that have been brewing for years, others that have popped up in my head over the past week or so. I want to continue laying out exactly how anyone can get musicking, even as time and money continue to be in short supply. There's an idea to expand on a zine I made during lockdown about punk telly that should hopefully develop into more than an excuse to go to the British Library. Lots of scattered things, so let's see what comes of it.

There are still zines and badges for sale on the website, should you wish to pick up a bargain; the website will at some point include an archive of all the listings I have published. (Been getting really into static site generators, so there's a project too!)

But! This email newsletter will pause until a new project actually exists, and the socials will go quiet as well. Sheer bliss.

So that was Another Subculture, and I want to thank everyone who has helped make it exist (especially the wonderful PageMasters who have patiently and beautifully made the paper happen, with honorable mention to the office photocopiers at my previous office). I love silly music, I always will, and it is always worth giving it all a go.

I can be found as one half of Repetitive Strain on Voices Radio, along with partner in crime/work wife Vanity Crystal every third Sunday. The minor details band, Rubber, continues to formulate. And if you want to send me a message, tell me your zine, or request the InDesign files so you can counterfeit away, the email is still hello at anothersubculture dot co dot uk.

Instructions for ANOTHER SUBCULTURE.

Take care, make a zine, make your own media!
GET TO THE GIG.

Ben Perkins, 2026
