PUBG Adds DLSS Super Resolution, Its First DLSS Support in Eight Years

PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS turned on Nvidia DLSS Super Resolution on September 10, the battle royale's first DLSS support since it launched in 2017. DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) renders the game at a lower internal resolution, then uses AI to upscale the image, which lifts frame rates while keeping most of the sharpness. Nvidia shipped the support in its 616.92 Game Ready driver. PUBG still ranks among Steam's most-played games, so this reaches a large PC crowd at once.

Player impact: If your rig drops frames in late-circle fights, switch DLSS on tonight for free extra performance and steadier aim tracking. Expect an argument over whether AI upscaling adds input lag or smears fast-moving enemies at range.

Borderlands 4's FL4K Story Pack Launches and Lifts the Level Cap by 10

Borderlands 4 released its second story add-on, FL4K and the Last Resort, on September 10, publisher 2K and developer Gearbox confirmed. The DLC drops players into a new island jungle to rescue FL4K's pet skag and ships with a new playable Vault Hunter (a player character class), Loveless the Hacker, plus Bounty Pack 5. It also raises the max level cap by 10 for every Borderlands 4 owner, not only DLC buyers. Super Deluxe edition owners already have the pack.

Player impact: The 10 extra levels reopen the endgame grind for the whole player base, so even a maxed build has new skill points to spend today. Loveless the Hacker gives squads and solo players a fresh class to test.

🆓 Free to try

Free This Week: Astral Ascent and Luftrausers on Epic, Steelrising on Prime

The Epic Games Store is giving away two games free to keep (claim once, own forever) until September 17: Astral Ascent, a fast roguelite platformer, and Luftrausers, an arcade dogfighting shooter. Both replace last week's Alone With You. Amazon's Prime Gaming, meanwhile, is handing Prime members Steelrising, a full soulslike action game (a demanding melee combat game in the Dark Souls mold), to keep permanently as part of its September rollout.

Player impact: Claim Astral Ascent and Luftrausers on Epic before the September 17 reset, since free-to-keep games stay in your library even after the window closes. Steelrising is the standout free grab this month for anyone with Prime.

🕹️ Console specifics

Nintendo's Direct Puts Monster Hunter Wilds on Switch 2 This December

Nintendo's September 9 Direct confirmed Monster Hunter Wilds lands on Switch 2 on December 4, bringing Capcom's co-op monster-hunting game to the console roughly nine months after its launch elsewhere. Its expansion, Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, follows on Switch 2 in 2027. The same Direct dated Professor Layton and the New World of Steam for December 10 and locked Final Fantasy VII Revelation to the system for its April 2027 multiplatform release.

Player impact: Switch 2 owners who skipped Wilds on PC or PlayStation finally get a portable way to hunt this December, though the Ascendance expansion stays a 2027 wait. Handheld performance is the question mark to watch before buying.

🖥️ Hardware

007 First Light Gets Path Tracing and DLSS 4.5 on September 15

IO Interactive is adding path tracing and Nvidia DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction to spy game 007 First Light on September 15. Path tracing is a heavier lighting method that follows how light actually bounces around a scene for more realistic shadows and reflections, and it usually costs a lot of frames without upscaling to claw them back. The studio says the game has sold 4 million copies since its May 27 launch. Nvidia's 616.92 driver already adds support for the update.

Player impact: The update is a visual showcase worth toggling on when it lands September 15, but path tracing hammers frame rates, so anything short of a high-end Nvidia RTX card will lean hard on DLSS upscaling to stay smooth.
