MEETING COMICS

Here I am again!

PAGE TEN

I usually just share one finished panel of a page outside of patreon, but I want to show off this whole page. Page 10 of NO RACCOONS IN HELL:

NO RACCOONS IN HELL part two, page 10

It took me a while to figure out exactly how I wanted to draw this page. I wound up deciding to make a visual reference to something in NO RACCOONS IN HELL part one. I'm not going to tell you exactly what, but feel free to review part one and see if you see it.

SOME VALS

Here are some recent Val drawings, two of Val circa NO RACCOONS IN HELL and two of Val circa this very era in which we live today.

That’s all of my reports on my own work for this email newsletter, so you can stop reading now if you don’t want to read about where I’m selling some comics I didn’t draw, an app I downloaded and thought was awful, or a movie I highly recommend!

STUFF FOR SALE IN THESE LOCATIONS

First of all, I have an instagram account of comics that I’m selling, called Comic Garage Sale. Occasionally I’ll throw other stuff on there too. For example, I just sold a CD of Exene Cervenka reading excerpts from the Unabomber Manfesto.

There are a lot of recent graphic novels available for cheap, and a few available for not cheap. The proportions of those categories will change as I work my way through boxes of stuff.

I also have an ebay account, which currently consists of a few expensive art books, a bunch of soundtrack CDs, and some weird-ass shoes my brother bought and figured out he could not rock after the return deadline.

I’ll be adding more stuff to both of those on an ongoing basis for a while.

STUFF NOT FOR SALE IN THIS LOCATION

I downloaded the Whatnot app today to see if that looked like a good venue for me to sell stuff, and it was one of the worst things I’ve ever seen. AI generated profile images as far as the eye can see, and livestreams of people selling stuff in quick auctions.

Most of the sellers reminded me of a certain type of person I’ve encountered in comic shops or at comic shows who has absolutely no charisma and has chosen “in charge of a very small business” for their personality.

One young woman selling sneakers just kept yelling the size for the duration of each auction: “Ten and half men! Ten and half men! Ten and half men! TEN AND A HALF MEN!”

I felt kind of like Dante, but without Virgil to guide me.

The Inferno, Canto 15. Gustave Dore, etching.

MOVIE

Speaking of the horrors of capitalism, I suggest you go see I LOVE BOOSTERS while it's in the theater! Do it without learning anything more than you know about it.

If you cannot resist knowing more before you decide to see it, here's a review I wrote and posted to letterboxd. I kept it vague but still talked a bit about why I liked it.

OK, take care!

Thanks for reading!
