MEETING COMICS

NEXT PAGE UNDERWAY

Hey! I’m working on the next page, but I’m running slower than I would like on it. While my day job eating up considerably more than 40 hours this week contributed, I also spent a lot of time designing the living area seen in the background of this image:

the line art for a panel of NO RACCOONS IN HELL. The words "I don't know, man" are coming from around the corning. Val putting the index finger of one hand to her lips and pointing at a loft with her other. Tori is looking at Val.

I put more time than I intended into that, but I had fun, so I’m OK with it! Most of the page is done now, so I’m hoping to have it finished up in the next couple days.

HEROES CON?

I will not be exhibiting at Heroes Con next weekend, but I might show up for a day and walk around and see the people I want to see. The check engine light in my car just came on, and I will be making my decision on whether or not I go based on what I learn from my mechanic!

Let me know if you are going to be there and want to meet up!

OTHER ART

Here’s a little Val sketch that I did this week:

Drawing of Val in ink, wearing a chopped up t-shirt as a dress, mismatched socks, and sneakers.

RIP MARJANE SATRAPI

It was announced last week that cartoonist Marjane Satrapi has passed away. When I owned a comic shop, her book Persepolis was the first thing I showed people looking for a gift for their friend who hadn't read comics before. It is an inspiring and truly accessible work which I still recommend to anyone who has not read it.

Here’s a quote from her that I think is worth thinking about any time, but especially now with “current events” being what they are.

The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you.
And our governments are very much the same.

BIZARRO-WUXTRY

The acclaimed comic shop Bizarro-Wuxtry in Athens, GA, is closing. Here’s a link to the instagram announcement. If you don’t have instagram, but do have money to buy out their stock, here’s the text of the post:

Bizarro is for sale.

Sadly, Bizarro has taken a hit.
We are losing our space in the near future and are looking to liquidate our inventory to anyone interested in stocking their own business or in creating their very own comic book store. Call for details.

FOR SERIOUS ENQUIRIES, PLEASE
CALL 706-296-1922

Here’s a boingboing.com article about the shop from a few years ago.

OK! Take care.

Thanks for reading!
