MEETING COMICS

ELEVEN TWELVE

(above heading to be read in the style of the Pointer Sisters Pinball song on Sesame Street)

I have finished pages eleven and twelve of NO RACCOONS IN HELL PART TWO! Here are panels from each of those pages. You might have seen the line art from the first panel shown in last week’s email!

HEATHCLIFF

From the New York Times article on Heathcliff cartoonist Peter Gallagher:

“Gallagher’s ‘Heathcliff’ is one of the most misunderstood comics of this era,” the cartoonist Andrew Neal said. “But the beautiful thing is, it doesn’t matter. Whether or not someone gets a ‘Heathcliff’ comic is not the most important thing about it, and I find that thrilling.”

I was in Sunday’s New York Times, quoted in an article about Peter Gallagher, the cartoonist of Heathcliff. A screenshot of my quote is above.

Why, you may ask (if you haven't been following along for years), did they contact me? Well, even though I'm identified as a cartoonist (which is, in fact, how I identified myself to the reporter), I am in fact, the preeminent Heathcliff journalist.

Here is an essay on Heathcliff I wrote in 2021.

Here is an interview I conducted with Peter Gallagher shortly thereafter.

Here is another interview I conducted with Peter Gallagher, this time live in front of a crowd.

I guess I should also link to the NYT article in question, so here it is.

If you want to read more of my thoughts on this article, there’s a free post at my patreon, which you might have already seen if you clicked through to the patreon link above in the email! It includes the text and links above, and then just keeps going. Here’s the direct link! Spoiler! I shit talk the NYT.

NO HEROES

I did not make it to Heroes Con this weekend. My car was doing fine, but I lightly yoinked my sciatic nerve earlier this week. I was mostly healed, but the last time I was mostly healed from a mild yoinking, then drove to a comic show three hours away, spent the day on concrete, and drove back (this was SUCZ in Staunton, VA, for those keeping score), I messed up my back badly enough that I then had to take a bunch of time off of work...and more importantly, I felt horrible for like a solid week! I was still tempted to go, because there were a good amount of people I really wanted to see there, but decided to make the mature choice. Oh well! I hope everyone had a good show!

Alright, take care!

Thanks for reading!
