Brief Update

Sorry for the late newsletter!

I was busy preparing a new Tindie listing for Peaky 8-bit, and that took longer than expected.
On top of that, OpenAI dropped GPT-6/Astra over the weekend, which was… a whole thing.

I don't use OpenAI's products myself, but as someone who works with Blender (and game engines) daily — as you'll see below — I still needed to camp out on X for a while to evaluate: "What can it actually do now?" and "How far does it really go?"
Honestly, I'm a bit exhausted.

(Blender MCP

My dominant hand has pretty bad tendinitis from too much Blender work (which is partly why I'm building Peaky 8-bit in the first place), so I do welcome AI helping out with 3D tasks. That said… I really wish these companies would dial back the attention-economy-driven marketing and just let us work quietly.
(For what it's worth, Blender MCP and headless workflows have been genuinely useful for learning how add-ons work under the hood.)

Oh, and one more thing —
Here in Japan, summer is basically over and autumn has arrived.
Last year, summer started late and ended late too — it felt like "autumn will never come!!" (it didn't cool down until the autumn equinox). So I'm really grateful this year.
The flip side: now that it's cooler and my brain is working again, I keep thinking "I need to do this, and that, and that too…" — which is how the newsletter ended up late. A classic backlog pileup.

I've listed an assembled Peaky 8-bit v2.2 on Tindie.

This version adds hot-swap socket support (otherwise nearly identical to v2.1).

I've also added the following to the GitHub repo:
- v2.2 case data (.stl files)

Next up: listing the bare PCB on Tindie and publishing the Gerber files on GitHub.

I remade the single armchair by the fireplace, and I think that completes the full set of furniture.

From here it's mostly placing the assets I've already built.
So now I'm fine-tuning meshes and doing final adjustments on materials and textures.

Hoping to get it listed by the end of September…
