Energy Sources | Issue 07 | January 2023
Hello and welcome to another episode of 'ENERGY SOURCES' – the interlude newsletter as part of my ENERGY TRANSMISSION.
Resuming to this format before continuing my interviews. This listicle helps me to fill the gaps while trying to send out a newsletter every month.
So, here we go again! Big thanks to THE AMBITION for supporting me on every issue. 🙏

These are my new energy sources for January '23:
NYTimes: Shannon Abloh is ready to talk
The world lost Virgil Abloh in November 2021 – one year later his wife Shannon gives her first interview since then in the NYTimes. This was the most intense and emotional interview I've read over the winter. Maybe it's just for me, but it is so inspiring to hear Shannon's perspective and how she plans to continue the Abloh legacy. In her powerful words: “I think that it’s important that my kids are able to see in 20 years what their dad was able to do and that Mom really stepped up. That through everything, through all the grief, she was able to pull it together and move forward.”
Nike: Virgil Codes | E4 | CULTURE
Another source from Virgil: in a new video installment for Nike, the sports brand pays homage to the beloved fashion designer. “THE CODES” of Virgil Abloh is a six-part series that defines V’s open source methods while celebrating his legacy and cultural impact at Nike. In this episode, we hear from Virgil’s closest collaborators and friends on how he shifted different dimensions across culture while seamlessly creating new platforms and possibilities for communities of color.
Gear Patrol: These are the Boutique Running Brands You Need to Know
I know, I keep posting running stuff. But you know, this the source of everything for me right now. And I know that lots of people are trying it, recognising how much it can do for your body and your mind. Anyways, before shopping at the biggest retail players, check out this article from Gear Patrol to find some niche brands that are superfine. I can not emphasize it enough, but the socks, that Near Earth is producing are the best socks out there! And on a side note: how awful is ad-fueled content like this?! On mobile this the norm now but it is an awful experience with all the banners and ads destroying the whole article...
JUNO Awards: rising | Night Lovell
Night Lovell is a phenomena. His voice and bass-heavy tracks are a constant in my music streaming when I'm working or driving in the car. The latter is something that lots of people celebrate as he rose to fame by drift and car videos with his sounds. There are so many BMW carporn videos with his songs and millions of hits. But if you watch this 3 year old portrait of the rapper, it just makes sense. He also loves his BMW and we watch him clean his beloved car. He is this nice and humble character living in Canada doing what he loves. And you know what? Before he became he rapper he was among the fastest runners of the country. Just search for "Shermar Paul Running".
You might know Meechy Darko from the rap group Flatbush Zombies. The rapper from Flatbush/Brooklyn, NY has this unique voice and flow you can not unhear once you digged it. Having released his debut solo album 'Gothic Luxury' last August, one video and song for me stood out: PRADA U. It's god damn catchy und you'll keep playing it on repeat. But even better is the official music video referencing GTA in perfection. Honestly, we've seen a lot of these, but he acts this out so smoothly well.
Hypebeast: How Nick Holiday Created His Own Brand
It's always nice to see how designers and the people behind brands came to be. In this Hypebeast diary we get to know how it all went for Nick Holiday. I came across his brand long after he was already successful and engaged with Brockhampton "leader" Kevin Abstract. An openly gay couple in the rap business is something that you don't see so often. Nick made waves with his NY/LA hats, his holiday collections and styling Brockhampton for several years. Not everyone likes what he does, but he made it and we need to acknowledge it without envy.
🕊️DC SHOES: KEN BLOCK GYMKHANA PRACTICE🕊️
A sad thing hit hard at the beginning of the new year: Ken Block sadly died in a snow mobile accident. It struck me and a lot of my friends when we found out. Especially seeing his last stories of his winter and deep snow trip. Even after he passed they were still online. Seeing the postings of him and his family having the best time. Thinking of him doing what he loved most all the time. It's just sad. But he is a legend that will live forever in all of our memories. I vividly remember when a couple of friends and me discovered the video above. It was the first Gymkhana video we saw. It was mind boggling to watch the Segway scene over and over again. And everything that came after it was just pure adrenaline fuelled energy from Ken Block. Rest in peace.
In this episode of Arte’s TRACKS magazine, I discovered Scor奥熙. He makes Chinese rap “Made in Germany.” Born in Bremerhaven, he is one of the few world connectors between Chinese and Western social media. Out of pure interest, Scor learned Chinese, moved to Shenzhen and is now a small rap sensation in the Middle Kingdom. On his German-language TikTok channel, he reports on his life in Shenzhen.
Spacecadet: 2023 Trend Report Collection
Ending one year and sliding over into the next is always the prime time for all the trend scouts and researchers to put out their reports on what will be big in 2023. Gladly, Space Cadet collected the most important Trend Reports for 2023 in a nice overview. No one can really foresee the future but these give you some very nice insights and inspiration when you are creating or in an ideation process. Definitely worth checking out!
As I mentioned last time, the ENERGY TRANSMISSION is from now on powered by THE AMBITION. And with the collaboration I started to also post the new format AMBITION ENERGY on all of their platforms. I'm very grateful for everyone that checks out the Instagram from time to time or my postings on the magazine. Gang gang!
That's it for now. I hope you feel inspired or energized in any way by this newsletter and make the most of it! Protect your energy.✨
Happy to start the interviews again next month. Energy exchange in progress...
See you! 🫂✨
