The Raspy Raven Rag The Raspy Raven Rag

What do you hunger for most from a session?

Hunger

Not to get too deep.

I hunger for flesh 🧠 🩸.

Oops, sorry, the inner zombie 🧟 in me escapes.

I mean, I hunger for connection. It’s one of the most human needs, and Tabletop Roleplaying Games can provide that in their most perfect, unique moments. It could be as simple as a laugh rippling across the table due to a terrible (or great) dice roll, or a moment of perfect character representation: “Tiny pulls out a gun and shoots them in the face” - that’s so Tiny!

To build on that, an emotional connection, where there is a deeper interweaving of the character situation and the player or even between players. A tear shed over the death of a character, the sharp intake of breath as a beloved NPC turns out to be a traitor, or the realisation that one PC is falling for another.

I think this is sometimes called Bleed, when the game bridges the fantasy into the real world. Not something I’d want in every game; for me, that would be an emotional turmoil that would be hard to cope with every week, but once in a while, it provides those little gems that live long in the gaming memory.
