The Raspy Raven Rag The Raspy Raven Rag

One game you regret not trying?

A young lad from 1902 regrets his attempts at Larceny. Larceny requires physical, personal property that can be carried away.
Regret

I have loads and loads of opportunities to try most games; if I’ve not tried a game, it’s usually qualified by… not yet. When I look at all the games going on on The Raspy Raven, I do think, though, could I squeeze just one more wafer-thin night of gaming in (monsieur)?

Two games spring to mind: firstly, Ars Magica, seemingly incredibly complex and embedded in historical influences, but the bit that gets its hook into me is the dedication to magic, the rituals that may take many weeks, months, years to come to fruition. Whole campaigns set around learning a new spell or discipline of magic. The troupe of GMCs that gather around these events and the players can puppeteer different levels of influence. But I know I’m not to be trusted around a game like this; it would soak up my time like a sponge, send me down the deepest of rabbit holes, and I’d not be satisfied with just skimming the surface. One for deep into retirement, I think.

Secondly, The One Ring 2e. I love the approach to this game, slowly building out different regions via adventure sites, so you have loads of flexibility in dropping these sites into your own stories. The books just seem to become grander and more expansive; Moria is incredible and to be expected from the king of sandbox campaigns, Gareth Hanrahan. There are now two regular groups on The Raspy Raven - The One Ring and The Two Ring (ha, ha) and I jealously observe their trips through Mirkwood or under the direction of Saruman. Again, I feel I’d not be able to dabble; I’d have to dive in and be unable to commit due to a full-on schedule of campaigns. It will again be for another time that I head out on an adventure into Middle-earth.
