Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬 Peaberry
Hello Sideyard Friends,
This week’s roast is a peaberry Papua New Guinea washed process coffee. Peaberry coffee stems from a genetic anomaly in coffee shrubs whereby 5-10% of the cherries on a coffee shrub develop just one seed in a coffee cherry vs two. The resulting seed develops a round shape, akin to a pea—hence the name. Sometimes processing stations sort these beans into their own lots and market it as a peaberry. Coffee lore says that peaberries taste better, but there’s really no empirical evidence for it. There’s no denying that it’s a fun novelty though.
This one was roasted today. Specifically between 9am and 1pm. That is to say, it could use a few days of rest if you have some other coffee that you’re still working through. If not, feel free to start in on it in the morning with me.
Here are the importer’s tasting notes: Dark Chocolate, Blackberry, Dried Plum, Brown Sugar, Black Tea, Yuzu. I’m not sure I could recall what Yuzu tastes like without a refresher, but I’ll be looking for the rest of those notes over the coming week!
We have a couple extras in stock. https://sideyard.coffee/products/single-bags
The origin track for the week is Ten Guitars by The Stalemates.
Cheers,
Ryan
