We’ve been teasing the first new book of the Scrub Jay Press 2.0 era since a collective of Fresno writers revived the Scrub Jay imprint in the summer of 2024. Now, at long last, that first new book is ready to reveal!

Deep Vines: 60 Fresno Writers for the 21st Century.

In California's Central Valley, storytellers are intimately intertwined—across generations, across languages and cultures, and across borders both visible and invisible. The poets and writers whose lives embody this expansive region of the West, whether for a few seasons or for decades, contain all the beauty and all the heartache of a shared home like no other. Through Deep Vines their writing connects the places they know: sprawling stories twining their way far from the center of Fresno, stretching past the city's limits, enduring. In a new anthology 25 years in the making, these 60 Fresno Writers for the 21st Century are vital voices both new and familiar, whose words will resonate beyond the Golden State.
