Hi!
This is the 2nd newsletter I’m writing with a 30 minute timer, to embrace imperfection, for this doesn’t need to be a perfect thing. It just needs to communicate.
Though this week, it doesn’t seem to be going so well. As soon as I typed “2nd“ the doorbell rang and I had to take my laptop off my lap, get out the room I’m in, and go answer the door.
And actually - even before starting I had to stop to find out the details for a gig we are playing next week. Which meant going on social media. Which meant distraction.
I’m here now though, & that is all that matters.
Our Next Gig / A New Gig
Yes - we are playing next week.
We will be the opening band for Sunglasz Vendor at Oporto in Leeds.
Specifically, this will be on the 22nd of July, and doors are at 7:30pm which means we will be playing at 8pm or something like that.
There will be at least three members of Rowan and Friends, but there could be more.
Another Gig / An Old Gig
As mentioned in last week's newsletter, we are playing at The Golden Ball in York on the 29th of July. This is a continuation of our monthly residency there - the 44th one to be exact.
I said the musical guests would be decided by now. But I didn’t get round to it. I also said that I would make a poster. I also didn’t get round to that.
The gig is happening though - so please come. :)
Limitations
Half way through typing this newsletter directly into my chosen newsletter platform, the said newsletter platform decided to stop working. I didn’t lose the newsletter though - I just copied it into Google Docs for safekeeping. This does mean that I’ll have to go back to the newsletter platform and schedule it later in the week.
I think without this timer I would have given up halfway through. And there would be no newsletter. But I have stayed strong. And you will all get a newsletter. Even if half of that newsletter is just talking about writing a newsletter.
At least I had some new news to share. If I didn’t this would have been very futile.
Thanks
to everyone who is still listening to our album. I try not to look at statistics, but I did find it funny that “Poker Night” - the first track on Go On! Roll That Old Boulder Away - was skipped seven times. And listened to in full once.
I reckon this is either:
Eight different people trying the album out - and only one of them deciding to go past the first thirty seconds
Or one person who kept on skipping the same track again and again and again.
The track is only 1 minute thirty, but it does start with a deliberately poor quality recording. So maybe people (or a person) are put off by that.
The timer just went off - so I don’t have time to explore that uninteresting thought any further.
Maybe see you at a gig!
- Rowan.
