Hi!
It has been more than two months since I last wrote a newsletter, so you might have thought that the whole Rowan & Friends band had fallen down a hole after our triumphant performance at Filey Folk Festival (1).
Although he seems to have given up on this already, I have decided to follow Kiran Leonard’s idea to set a 30 minute timer for writing a newsletter, in the hope that a newsletter might actually get sent.
I get blocked with newsletters because I make a mistake in thinking that they should do one of two things:
communicate some grand idea to you
sell you something
And while I still want to do both of these things, I realise that they both block me from actually sending a newsletter. The former because I don’t often have any grand ideas, and the latter because I don’t actually like selling things to people.
15 minutes are now up so I suppose I should start selling you something.
Our Next Gig
The next Rowan and Friends concert will be at the Golden Ball, York on the 29th of July. This is a resumption of our monthly residency there on the last Wednesday of every month. Guests TBA but I hope to confirm them by next newsletter.
This is the 44th Golden Ball residency gig, and it starts at 8pm, and is pay as you feel.
I’m going to make a poster for this after this email - or at least start one. Recently I’ve been trying to interpret my dreams and incorporate them into my poster designs in the hope that something greater might be revealed to me. Nothing has been revealed as of yet, but time will only tell.
Recommendation
I would like to take the remainder of this newsletter to recommend ChaatsGPT - a food truck in Coventry.
ChaatsGPT sell Dosa for stupidly cheap prices, and is stupidly delicious. We have gone there the last two times we have played in Coventry, and we always talk about it for weeks afterwards.
GPT in this case stands for Golgappas, Paavs and Teas. And they serve the only AI I approve of: Authentic Indian street food.
The staff are stoic, and aren’t up for much conversation. But I reckon that this is because they really know what they are doing, and that they recognise that idle chatter is superfluous to a good Dosa.
Dream
I had a dream last month that a woman - oh sorry I have to stop there because the timer ran out.
Speak again in one week.
best,
Rowan
Footnotes:
(1) One for the history book, folks: we had to follow a ukelele cover of “Sweet Child of Mine” and I broke a guitar string in the first song. Despite this, we won over the good people of Filey and sold four t-shirts
