Hey, a new album (and a pre-release concert)

Several fun bits of news from Proggerton: first, our fifth full-length studio release, “Chronology,” will finally be unleashed on September 18 through La Reserve Records on digital platforms and compact disc (a lot of people still like those and I think that’s cool). Second, it will also be released on limited edition double-vinyl in October! It’s our first foray into the vinyl world and the test presses sound quite nice indeed. Thanks to our old homey Aaron Parks for helping us with the test spin, and keep an eye out for Aaron’s group playing in the near future.

Finally, we’re playing an extra-special pre-release concert at Monks Jazz Club this Friday, August 28, and we’ll have CDs with us for everyone who wants to be the first on their block with their own copy! We’re playing two sets in Monks’ brand-spanking-new, spectacularly beautiful, great-sounding room with a full bar and everything. As a considerable bonus, joining us for the first time in many years will be our old friend Chris McQueen, one of my favorite guitarists going on a quarter-century, while Carter’s overseas. You may have seen Chris play with Snarky Puppy, Forq, or maybe even David Bowie’s “Lazarus” over the years.

In-person and livestream tickets for both sets are here at Monks’ website.

To go along with the release of the full album on September 18, we’ll be releasing another video single, and this one will be a tune we’ve played quite a lot over the past few years but only properly recorded last October at Church House. It’s been a fan favorite and frequent set-closer since we started playing it and it’s probably one of the more face-melting tracks we’ve ever finished, so stay tuned for that. And in the meantime, please continue to enjoy the three singles that are already out there: “Exposition,” “Mister Brown and Mochi Jones,” and “Frith Variations.” We’re pleased with how they all turned out!
