September happenings in NC live art
Happy late summer! Here's this month's meetups and more...
This Month's Outdoor Meetups
We're mostly back on schedule except I had to fudge Durham Plein Air/USK a bit since I have too many markets the following weekend:
- Saturday, September 5: Lafayette Village (Raleigh) with Raleigh Outdoor Painting Group
- Saturday, September 12: Urban Sketching at CAM Raleigh with Scott Renk's CAM Raleigh USK group
- Saturday, September 19: Trolls at Dix Park (Raleigh) with Raleigh Outdoor Painting Group
- SUNDAY, September 20: American Tobacco Campus - North (Durham) with Durham Plein Air/Urban Sketching
The Mebane Urban Sketchers haven't announced their September event yet, so stay tuned on their Instagram.
As always, several figure drawing and general art meetups are occurring every month in the same place - you can find links to those on ncartmeets.com.

Annual Events coming up
Paint it Orange was just officially announced for September 25 – October 2, 2026. They are back at the Eno Mill and have brought back the weekend session if you can't do the weekday session.
Art Swarm in Cary will be October 14-18 and is open for registration as well for both plein air and studio artists.
New/changed meetups
We have a new general craft evening meetup with Crafty Happy Hour. The next one is September 11, and it's under the Draw Y'all meetup (which you should join to get most of these meetups' most up to date info).
I removed a few meetups that looked like they weren't happening anymore.
If you were following the Duke Gardens thing, we won't have any official partnerships this year but maybe next. Everything will be informal until then.
Other announcements
- I'm teaching a beginner-friendly watercolor workshop in Hillsborough on September 12 at the new Curated store. Single session and all supplies included. Register through Curated
- I still have some space in Perspective Fundamentals on October 2. Register through Durham Arts Council
- Scott Renk is teaching Urban Sketching: Character, Conflict, and Setting on October 17 as part of Art Swarm in Cary. Register through FALC.
- Fellow instructors, if you have a class related to live art (figure drawing, plein air, urban sketching, and similar), feel free to reply and let me know about it - I don't mind announcing them here with a tip on Ko-fi to help with the operating costs of the website and newsletter.
