1. I am super excited about Allison Field Bell’s launch of Field Works Writing, an organization for writers, by writers. Allie and I will be co-teaching a comprehensive course this coming fall called Break the Rules: In this nine-week course, you’ll experience a mix of everything: craft talks, generative prompts, and lots of dedicated workshop time for both initial drafts and revised drafts. We’ll use the flash form to hone in on three of writing’s most sacred rules and then smash them to pieces. This course will focus on rules about:
   — punctuation,
   — showing versus telling,
   — and adverbs & adjectives.
   We’ll operate within the delightfully annoying credo: learn the rules so that you can break them. You’ll have the opportunity to take an in-depth look at each rule, review example stories, and then practice breaking that rule in your own drafts. You’ll also have space and time to revise each draft and workshop that revision, fine-tuning your revision skills while you let your rebel side take the wheel.

2. If You Were That Eve will be a part of Stanchion 24, the final Stanchion print issue. I’m so sad to see this lovely publication close its doors, after years of putting out incredible work, all while treating writers and the community at large so well. 3. Continuing in the A’s, here is the Just Read: Cold Toast by Kathryn Aldridge-Morris review. I’ve enjoyed her work for a long time, it was a pleasure to read Cold Toast, which really shows how a small collection can punch every bit as hard as something full length.
   

   

4. I had a blast at Brett Hanley’s release celebration of I Was Your Bird, and I can’t decide if the dinosaur poems were my favorite, or the Emily (Dickinson) and Sue pieces, but the whole book is stunning.

5. Travis Flatt’s latest chapbook, Such Late Night Radio, came in the mail a couple of weeks ago and one of the things I enjoy most about this is the signature wryness and satire that always have a tender knife hiding behind them.

6. The SAFTA Trans and Nonbinary writer’s retreat was incredible and I’ll have more to say on that next newsletter, but it was incredible to be in community with everyone and healing in a way I could have never expected.

7. We all know about Jimothy, eh? I enjoy this a ton because I used to use “Jimothy” as a placeholder name for sales dudes at work who couldn’t spell my three-letter name correctly in emails, and honestly this is WAY more fun. https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/meet-jimothy-seattles-internet-famous-raccoon
