Mend and Bend Newsletter - Summer 2022

Hey pals! Summer is officially here! Here's what I've been up to:
Bending News

NEW CLASS ALERT: Gentle Yoga for Scoliosis and Back Care. This class will have a slower pace and gentler variations of poses specifically designed for those who need the extra care. I welcome folks with scoliosis, back pain, or back issues. This class is held at Akasha Collective in Wheat Ridge near 38th and Sheridan. For now this class will be solely in-person, but I may open it up to virtual attendance via Zoom if there is enough interest. If you want to attend but cannot make it in-person, please send me a quick email and let me know.
I'm studying for my Iyengar Yoga Certification assessment. The assessment will be sometime this Autumn; this is serious stuff, and when I pass I'll be certified at Level 1 in the Iyengar method of yoga. Prepping for this includes studying anatomy, philosophy, demonstrating poses, and teaching students. More on this in the coming months, but I'll need some experienced Iyengar practitioners to be my virtual students during my assessment. Keep that in the back of your mind...
Deborah Wolk from Samamkaya Yoga in New York will be teaching a Yoga for Scoliosis workshop at Living Yoga. She's a fantastic yoga instructor and I highly recommend taking her classes and workshops. This one will focus on how we can use the limbs to help guide the asymmetric body into balance. For more info about the Denver workshop, go here. I'll see you there!

Mending News
Did you know that the Art District on Santa Fe in Denver hosts a First Friday Art Walk every month? It's a great time to go look at art of all kinds, support Denver and Colorado artists, grab a bite to eat at a food truck, and just walk around with friends. Well, I was invited to my first pop-up market there this month in the parking lot of up-and-coming community gathering space, Town Hall Collaborative. I made some patches to sell and offered information about yoga for scoliosis and upcoming mending classes. They'll be taking a hiatus from hosting the pop-up in July, but stay tuned for news about local mending workshops and yoga classes at Town Hall as well as future pop-ups.

Other News & Musings
Over the last couple years I've gotten into foraging and mushroom hunting. If you follow me on social media, you're bound to see some hauls this summer. All this mushroom inspo has definitely influenced my art, as you saw with the patches, and I'm looking forward to porcini season. Here's what I'm studying to go out there with knowledge and come back with FOOD! Ember heard I was taking pictures and just had to be in the shot. And here's a photo of a ruby king bolete (porcini mushroom) I found last year - delicious!

Happy Pride Month, y'all! In honor of uplifting the community, I'd like to highlight folks to support:
Bug Knack at Greenhouse Hair Studio in Greenwood Village. Bug is a cosmetologist who treats their clients like the humans they are and creates gender affirming hairstyles for all. I recently had them refresh my side-buzz, and the cut turned out great. But moreover: they were kind, funny, and loved to chat about nerdy stuff. I found Bug on TikTok, and I think you'd like them, too.
If you know me, you know I enjoy a good hike. Over the course of the pandemic I got a lot of my hiking and backpacking info from Miranda on YouTube. Her series, Miranda in the Wild, is such a fun place to watch and learn about outdoor shenanigans, camping, hiking, and backpacking. Go check her out.
Ladyfingers Letterpress is the perfect resource for your gifting needs. They're based out of Colorado Springs, and they have you covered from birthday cards, to stationary, candles, gifts, to everything LGBTQIA+ Pride related. They are good humans.
