Mend and Bend Newsletter - February 2023

Howdy y'all! Thanks for taking a quick gander at my [heretofore inconsistent] newsletter! I do like writing these, so look forward to monthly updates.
Mending News
I'm teaching an in-person Visible Mending Workshop THIS WEEK on February 11th! It will be held at a lovely shop, The Craft Box, in Wheat Ridge, just 15 minutes from downtown Denver. I will introduce some basic hand-sewing techniques so you can combat fast fashion and repair textiles. I’ll present techniques for patching holes, darning patches, and sashiko-style running stitches so you can mend your own garments. The class is designed for all skill levels of hand-sewers. After I present techniques and samples, you’ll have ample time to work on your own project.
At the end of the workshop everyone interested in sharing their work with the group will be able to.
I encourage you to purchase mending materials at The Craft Box! They sell new fabric, fabric scraps, yarn, notions, & more. I just scoped out their cotton thread, and they have QUITE the selection.
The most direct way to register is on my website and to pay me directly, but you can also find it over on EventBrite (and pay a $3.85 fee). I'm so excited for this class.

One of my more recent personal mending projects is the knee of an old pair of maroon pants which wore thin and ripped. Let's not look back on how long they were in the mending pile... The patch is velour-esque and is a dreamy sensory fidget surface.

CLASS ALERT: Level 1 Iyengar Yoga. This class is suitable for those new to yoga, and please note I welcome folks with scoliosis, back pain, or back issues still. This class is held at Akasha Collective in Wheat Ridge near 38th and Sheridan. This is a hybrid class, meaning you can take it online or in-person. Thursdays, 5:45-7:00pm MST.
The last time I sent out a newsletter (WOW, so long ago!), I was studying for my Iyengar Yoga Certification assessment. I am pleased to say that I passed my assessment and am officially a Level 1 Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher (CIYT).
I've been working through an old whiplash injury with a physical therapist, and now you, the yoga student, can benefit from what I'm learning about shoulder, neck, & upper back stuff! My current favorite movement from PT is self-massaging my pecs with a lacrosse or tennis ball sandwiched between me and a wall.
And finally, I gave myself the gift of some wooden stall bars to assist with yoga, body strength, and traction. Check it out:
This is my current yoga class schedule for February:

For Akasha Collective Classes, register through my website.
For Living Yoga Classes, register through Living Yoga's website.
For Samamkaya Yoga Classes, register through Samamkaya Yoga's website.
You can always see my upcoming classes here. In addition to my public group classes, I offer in-person and online private yoga sessions where we can work together one-on-one. If you or someone you know is interested, please contact me.
