Mend and Bend Newsletter - May 2026

Hello, friend! Thanks for taking a quick gander at my newsletter! Did you know that May is Scoliosis Awareness Month? You may have subscribed to this newsletter from the crafty side of my business, so I’d like you to know that scoliosis (lateral curve of the spine) is a BIG part of my life and why I teach yoga. Read on for upcoming events and classes.

Mending News

  • Mending Club! Leah and I host the group at The Craft Box in Wheat Ridge. Come to our next meeting: THIS Thursday, May 21st! We gather at 6:00pm and stay until 8:30pm, so drop in when you can. Bring a clothing item that needs mending or a patch you've been meaning to sew, and craft alongside other friendly folks! We ask for a $5 entry fee to help pay for rental costs, advertising, and supplies. BYO supplies, but we’ll have some mending basics available to use. With this dedicated space, I’ll be bringing my sewing machine to share! This week, those who like to skate are headed to Skate City Arvada straight after for adult skate night.

  • Mending-adjacent: I’ve started teaching the Crochet 101 class at ReCreative. The next class is TODAY, Wednesday, May 20th at 6:00pm. Students learn the basics of crochet: holding the yarn and hook, making a chain, and single and double crochet.

Bending News

  • I’m substitute teaching this Thursday morning, online, for Leslie Bradley. This is an All-Levels Iyengar Yoga class, and you can come in your PJ’s from home! Class is 9:00-10:15am MDT.

  • I teach 3 regular classes a week. Check out my schedule below. I have over 10 years of experience working with my own scoliosis in yoga asanas (poses), and I can help you understand the curves of your back and adjust with props as necessary to find space, gain length, get stronger, and de-rotate those twisted spinal muscles.

The background is a surrealist image of a meadow with an open door. In the foreground is the schedule of yoga classes Sara offers: Mondays: Gentle Level 1 Iyengar Yoga, 5:45-7:00pm at Evolition. Tuesdays: Yoga for Scoliosis/Back Care, 5:00-6:30pm, both in-studio and online from Living Yoga. Thursdays: Yoga for Scoliosis/Back Care, 12:45-2:15pm, both in-studio and online from Living Yoga

For Evolition Classes, register through Tiffany’s website.

You can always see my upcoming classes here. In addition to my public group classes, I offer private yoga sessions where we can work together one-on-one. If you or someone you know is interested, please contact me.

Other News & Musings

  • Community Care and Pedestrian Dignity: Last month I recommended a YouTube channel, Not Just Bikes, and this next local project directly impacts the dignity of folks who are moving for transportation outside of a car. Jonathon Stalls is a Denver area activist who amplifies voices of those in need of pedestrian dignity. About 10% of adults are non-drivers, not to mention kids and teens who don’t drive, which bumps this number up to about 30% of Americans who don’t drive. For those who don’t drive vehicles, there needs to be a better way to get around, and moreover: get around safely. Jonathon is campaigning to create a Civic Action Zine that highlights lived experiences of those to walk, roll, bike, scoot, and take public transit. The project is currently 2/3rds funded and only has 1 week left to go. I can’t wait to pass out these zines and see them at little libraries and beyond.

  • Adventure: Mark and I recently celebrated our 10-year wedding anniversary in Ouray, and we discovered Ouray’s own via ferrata. We were so glad to have been rock-climbing over the past 1 ½ years for strength and stamina. What an experience to hike/climb on the side of a canyon.

Thanks for sticking around, and I hope you take good care.

P.S. - If you have taken any yoga or mending classes with me, could you take a few minutes to write a short testimonial? Testimonials are so important to those of us who provide a service so that we can help reach more potential clients and students. All you need to do is hit “reply” to this email and type up a few sentences. THANK YOU to those of you who have written back with your testimonials!
