Mend and Bend Newsletter - June 2026

Mend & Bend Logo with a thread and needle and person in Vrksasana (tree pose). White text in front of a multi-color, pink-toned grid.

Hello, friend! Thanks for taking a quick gander at my newsletter! If you glimpsed my last email, I mistakenly named May as Scoliosis Awareness month. It’s JUNE! I am so grateful to my Yoga for Scoliosis teachers: Robin Thorpe, Elise Browning Miller, and Deborah Wolk. I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing if I never walked into my first Iyengar Yoga class with Robin back in 2015.

Mending News

  • Mending Club! Leah and I host the group at The Craft Box in Wheat Ridge. Come to our next meeting: THIS Thursday, June 18th. We gather at 6:00pm and stay until 8:30pm, so drop in when you can. Bring a clothing item that needs mending or a patch you've been meaning to sew, and craft alongside other friendly folks! We ask for a $5 entry fee to help pay for rental costs, advertising, and supplies. BYO supplies, but we’ll have some mending basics available to use. With this dedicated space, I’ll be bringing my sewing machine to share! Last month, Leah and I hopped over to Skate City Arvada after mending for Adult Skate Night. It was nice to get moving after sitting for a while, and we’re doing it again! Come join us on the rink!

  • Mending-adjacent: I’ve started teaching the Crochet 101 class at ReCreative. The next class is will be in July, date TBD. Students learn the basics of crochet: holding the yarn and hook, making a chain, and single and double crochet.

Bending News

  • I’m substitute teaching on Thursdays, June 18th and July 2nd for Tiffany over at Evoltion. This is an All-Levels yoga class, and class is 9:00-10:30am.

  • I teach 3 regular classes a week. Check out my schedule below. I have over 11 years of experience working with my own scoliosis in yoga asanas (poses), and I can help you understand the curves of your back and adjust with props as necessary to find space, gain length, get stronger, and de-rotate those twisted spinal muscles.

The background is a surrealist image of a meadow with an open door. In the foreground is the schedule of yoga classes Sara offers: Mondays: Gentle Level 1 Iyengar Yoga, 5:45-7:00pm at Evolition. Tuesdays: Yoga for Scoliosis/Back Care, 5:00-6:30pm, both in-studio and online from Living Yoga. Thursdays: Yoga for Scoliosis/Back Care, 12:45-2:15pm, both in-studio and online from Living Yoga

For Evolition Classes, register through Tiffany’s website.

For Living Yoga Classes, register through Living Yoga's website.

For Samamkaya Yoga Classes, register through Samamkaya Yoga's website. I currently don’t have a weekly class but I substitute teach occasionally.

You can always see my upcoming classes here. In addition to my public group classes, I offer private yoga sessions where we can work together one-on-one. If you or someone you know is interested, please contact me.

Other News & Musings

  • Community Care: So, I do a little bit of everything. I work as a yoga instructor, a fiber arts teacher, a lite bookkeeper, social media manager, grocery clerk… but also as a garden leader for a local nonprofit. This is my second season on staff with Grow Local Colorado, and growing season is in full swing. We couldn’t do the work we do without volunteers, and you have a plethora of gardens to choose from to offer your time if you want to volunteer with us. During this first part of summer we do a lot of weeding and maintaining the gardens. Soon enough we’ll be supporting heavy tomato branches and harvesting vegetables to take to local food pantries and organizations who distribute fresh food to those with the most need.

  • Adventure: I visited some family in southern Utah early this month and on top of spending quality time with my loved ones, I got to see the Grand Canyon for the very first time. It’s so immense and spectacular that it doesn’t seem real, and I can’t wait to go back and hike some smaller trails in the area.

Thanks for sticking around, and I hope you take good care.

-Sara
