maḳām maḳām

Dear friends,

Tomorrow, June 23, as part of Miss Read pre-fair off-site events, we officially launch maḳām editions, our publishing imprint, with an event dedicated to our publications and the conversations that brought them into being.

All authors and artists will be present from 18:00 to 21:00. The evening will feature presentations of Walking in a City, Selen Solak’s new zine with a text by Mustafa Sevinç, which will meet readers for the first time, alongside Dilşad Aladağ’s Taklak, Andreas Reihse’s Schlingern: Kreidler & (2009–2014), the Love Songs (2nd ed.) reprint, and ikili’s album, Aşk Şarkıları.

I am so happy that such a beautiful selection came together already at an early stage of this publishing journey; these publications reflect the transdisciplinary approaches that shape maḳām’s interests.

The presentations will be followed by a conversation on writing, collaboration, working methods, and independent publishing. We will have books and drinks as usual!

Also pleased to announce our last event before the summer break: Join us on July 4 for the Berlin launch of Taklak by , from 16:00 to 21:00.

The launch will bring together different layers of Taklak: archives, traces, materials, and a performative reading. At 19:30 sharp, Dilşad Aladağ will present a live performance.

Published by maḳām editions this spring, Taklak is an outcome of an artistic and archival research unfolding since 2022. Printed in 500 copies in English and Turkish, the book follows a plant native to the Mediterranean and moves through archives, landscapes, languages and coasts.

Come early, have tea with us, spend time with the materials, and wander through the taklaks of Istanbul before we close our doors until September.

And apropos September: maḳām editions will be presenting at Between Books at the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf from September 11–13, 2026. But more on all that later.

Take care and see you soon,

Seda
