Dear friends of maḳām,

Summer is here, and we still have a packed line-up of events for you before we take a break in July.

Before I get into that, please allow me to share some personal news. The German translation of my poetry book Love Songs has just been published by etcetera press, Berlin. Many thanks to Erec Schumacher, Andreas Reihse, and Anna-Lisa Dieter.

As poetry translations often are, this is a whole new book with a very different feel. I am very happy with how it turned out, and that Anna-Lisa Dieter has generously written an afterword. But back to maḳām-related news…

Tomorrow, May 30, the beautiful group show maḳām #3 is coming to an end. We will be here with tea, drinks, books, and much more from 3 PM until at least 7 PM. Come by!

On June 13, I am very excited to host BECKY in concert with Esthy on drums, with Andreas Reihse opening the evening. You can listen to Becky’s latest EP here to get a taste.

I am also very happy to be part of this year’s Project Space Festival. Our day-long event around Andreas Reihse’s book Schlingern will take place on Thursday, June 18. Here is the link! Kreidler (featuring Timuçin Dündar) at maḳām is a full-circle moment for me that means a lot. I might try to explain what I mean on June 18, so definitely save the date!

Finally, and this is also very exciting, we will officially launch maḳām editions with a special satellite event on June 23, taking place as part of this year’s Miss Read Art Book Fair pre-fair program. Stay tuned for details.

maḳām, the project space, is officially one year old now, and publishing under the maḳām editions imprint was still a mere idea back in December. Not even half a year later, we already have five publications/releases, with two more on the way before the end of the year. We have shown at one art book fair, and a second fair has just been confirmed. So: knock on wood, nazar değmesin, and thank you for your continuing interest and support.
