We’re moving through the end of summer and hopefully, the humidity and extreme heat along with it. The Jewish holidays are also just ahead. If you've been thinking about knitting or crocheting something new, something that layers well and something that doesn't demand perfect fit, this might be your moment.

patterns for this (and every) season

In general, my designs are built for two realities you can hold at once. First, I hope you find them easy to wear; they don't need a perfect fit and offer multiple styling options. Second, they don't ask you to hit gauge exactly, though you may find you need different amounts of yarn if you skip a swatch. I reach for my samples when I'm spending time in spaces with uncontrollable AC or simply want an accessory that helps me feel special.

You can browse all my patterns at my site. Ayrton, an understated lace poncho, is a favourite. Since it's been out for a decade now, I'm working on extended sizing for it. If you're looking for something quick to make before the holidays, Start with Chai and A Touch of Lace Kippah are both good ideas. They can also make meaningful gifts.

what's new in the shop

Yesterday I received a shipment of new colours. There's a new colourway of Chickadee—that sport-weight I'm in love with—called kittywake, a medium natural undyed heathered grey that feels both neutral and alive at once. I've expanded my LB Collection Superwash Merino offerings with briarsmoke (a warm brownish-grey green) and olive branch (dark yellowish green). Finally, I've added shark, a medium grey, to Starling, a workhorse sock yarn.

I hope to add photos of these colours later today, before Shabbat.

The Jewish holidays are fast approaching. The first night of Rosh Hashana is Friday, 11 September. Most of the chaggim fall on the weekend this year; the exception is Yom Kippur which begins the evening of Sunday, 20 September and lasts through Monday night. I'll reply to any emails the next day.
