july notes

Hi friends,

We're in yet another stretch of extreme heat: stay cool, drink water, and be gentle with your need to progress greatly on projects. Some days may find you working diligently for lengths of time; other days you may find only a few stitches before the fabric is set aside; both are completely valid ways to work. Yes, you may want to finish before a deadline, but most of you are knitting for pleasure not for work. Be gentle. I wrote a little more about this kindness to yourself and your projects, and why I find slow, steady motif work suits extreme temperatures.

what's new

Finally! The revised Start with Chai is out, with a new "double chai" size alongside the original and some cleaned-up pattern language throughout. If you already own it, the update should already be waiting for you; if not, you can find it on Ravelry or Payhip too. Last week, I wrote about the revision and a bit of an inside look into the whys and hows of this design.

A second new pattern was also quietly added: A Touch of Lace Kippah, a small, meaningful project. With the Jewish calendar in the Nine Days right now and Tisha b’Av beginning next Wednesday evening, this might be a good project to sit with during the fast.

I write this with my trusty tote by my side; yes, it is the boring purchase that lasts. Ok, this new one is only about a year old but it’s showing that it can put up with me and the hard work it needs to do, much like its predecessor.

a few things

All the yarn I have in stock is listed now, along with notions. If there's a fibre or tool you love and wish I carried, please tell me; I'd rather the shop reflect what people actually reach for than just what I happen to have on hand and think you want. Well, beyond my own favourites, of course. I’m knitting a tee in Chickadee right now, and I think I need to add more colours so I can knit more versions. (If you’d like access to the full palette, it is available directly from quince & co and on sale as I write this newsletter).

There are still a few individual instruction slots open through Q3, and Thursday afternoons continue nearly every week if you'd like to join us; a few slots may still be available for this week.

Stay cool.
