here's what's on the back burner
Hello friends,
I’m not actually quite sure what to write to you today. I usually have a bit of a plan, you know?
I have a few subjects floating around in my head, but nothing feels quite ready. Here’s what’s on the back burner: something about prosody, and the particular fit of words to music. Something about how effective intentional dissonance between words and music can be. Something about an argument I saw online the other day regarding using extant music in movies to create a sense of intertextuality (there’s definitely something to be said about Bridgerton here, lol). I mean, eventually, I’ll write a very long piece about why I think Patty Griffin’s Making Pies is one of the best songs ever written. Plus, I’m hoping to do more interviews of other musicians, more playlists, and, well, just more. So. That’s all to come!
Oh, and I’ll probably start playing more covers on instagram, so if you have any requests, please reply to this email and let me know ;)
Meanwhile, I got vaccinated, lost my job (well, really, my job lost me, but that’s a much longer story), and I just got back to New Orleans from seeing my family in Seattle. I’m still on Pacific Time and I desperately want some coffee right now. In fact, the weather is LOVELY today, and I’m not inclined to hang out in my house and write this for much longer.
Here’s a song for that exact mood. See you in two weeks with a new LLYDIAN song :D
xoxoxo, Lauren
