New Song: Insomnia
Hello Friends,
Another month, another song. Not gonna lie, this was a tough month in my non-music life, and this recording feels perhaps a little, uh, looser than what I've done so far. But what good is a self-imposed deadline-centric project if one doesn't stick to it?

I started writing this song last summer for my sister Emma, who suffers from insomnia, because I love her and insomnia sucks and my brain took over from there. I wrote the verses with a different chorus originally, and it wasn't quite clicking. I tossed out the meh parts and wrote a new chorus and it immediately felt 10000% times better. Re: the recording -- I feel good about what I was able to do with the time that I had, but I'm already thinking about ways to make it just a wee bit more sonically interesting in the last half. The answer is probably drums (the answer is usually drums). It just takes me forever to write and record a drum part. Next time! C'est la vie!
One last note: I'm starting to plan for playing live & touring in the next year(!). Thus, I want to "grow my audience" (insert your marketing language of choice lol) and would very much appreciate if you told everyone and anyone you know about this newsletter and/or any of my songs that you've ever liked at all. You know, no biggie.
See you in two weeks!

Insomnia
What things call to you when sleep will not?Their shadows are dark
Circle back, the mind detached
Your eyes dry and hard
Time doesn't heal all wounds, it just gets you used to them
Stayed in your room, in your bed, in your house, can't get out of it
Maybe I can't be what you need
But I'm here for whatever
Maybe this not what you want
But I want you to feel better
The world we knew told us a lie
Took years to find out
Look how we grow toward the light,
it's alright if it's slowed down
It's stupid to say "don't be afraid" when I am, too
Time makes a mess, it's not precious, just something to live through
Maybe I can't be what you need to fix things
But I'm here till whenever
Maybe this not what you thought you'd want
But I want you to feel better
Not the surest thing, not a certainty
What is right now is not forever
Not a perfect fit, nothing close to it
But we're here, we're together
Nothing in the history of living things has ever been fair.
