Busy May: FCBD and 'Zoot Suit' panel at LAMCA
Covering my LA Times panel, podcasts features, and upcoming events this May!

I’m trying to keep these things short.
But I realize that I bottle a lot of what I have to say for this because I have lost faith in the social media newsfeed that I depended on to promote my work.

I want to thank everyone that came to LA Times FOB panel and book release party at The Last Bookstore. It’s easy to forget how you’re loved and appreciated when you’re alone. Most of my days are spent alone because I haven’t worked in an office since 2019. I feel sorry for the cashier at the grocery store when I hold court at the register. But there are some of you that have really opened my eyes and showed me that this isn’t all for nothing.
Latinx Press Podcast: Peter Murrieta
Tucson’s favorite sons come together on one podcast. Peter has been an inspiration to this Tucson guy, and now I can call him a friend. We talk comics, writing, and Dodgers.
There’s a couple ways to watch or listen to these interviews. I like Apple Podcasts, myself. You can enjoy via YouTube and Spotify!
Speaking of podcasts…
Comic Book Couples Counseling Podcast
Brad and Lisa are two of the coolest people in comics. CBCCP is hands down one of the best podcasts celebrating the medium. Rachel and I lucked out and got to talk about the book and how much work needed to make it happen.
Death to Pachuco: A Massive Act of Will
We chat with Henry Barajas and Rachel Merrill about their new Image Comics series Death to Pachuco.
Robots For Tomorrow Podcast
I was on my buddy Greg’s podcast. He did his research! It’s almost a living eulogy! Listen here!
COMICS BEAT
Not really a podcast but I had to go to Wonder Con to see my dear friend Heidi MacDonald! We shot this fun video in her swanky press room!
UPCOMING EVENTS
I will be doing a couple of school talks, but that’s for the students not public. And I’ve been invited to a con in August, but I’m just waiting on them to announce it.
Saturday, May 2nd: I will be celebrating Free Comic Book Day @ Studio City Library with Corinna Bechko from 2-5 p.m.
Thursday, May 21st: 6 p.m. Los Angeles Mission College free pre-show event! 6:00 pm — “Zoot Suit in Popular Culture” — Panel led by Prof. Gustavo Jimenez (Chicano Studies, LA Mission) with ‘Death to Pachuco’ graphic novel author, Henry Barajas / Tia Chucha’s Centro Cultural pop-up bookstore. Click here to buy tix.
I think that’s about it. I’ll share in the next one if I remember.
See you in the funny papers,
HB
P.S. Mission Comics features Death to Pachuco for their book club!
