Good Trouble Comics announces “¡Huelga!: The Stories of Dolores Huerta & Sal Castro”
I'm teaming with Good Trouble Comics to publish my educational comics on Dolores Huerta and Sal Castro for the direct market

I’ve got great news: Good Trouble Comics is recollecting the Latinx historical comics I worked on with Louie Chin, Gab Contreras, and J. Gonzo.
¡Huelga! The Stories of Dolores Huerta & Sal Castro will hit comic book shops on August 5th.
Big thanks to Andrew Ayden and Lauren Sankovitch for their help and belief in the work we have done with the Civics For All group. Yes, these comics are still available for free to read digitally through WeTeachNYC’s website. But this collect both stories with a spine and french flaps!
I know this doesn’t need repeating but it’s important for me to highlight not only Dolores and Sal, but more names and faces that helped fight for migrant farmworkers and children that deserved basic human decency.
The market for non-fiction comics about BIPOC figures in history is pretty niche. Thankfully, educators and librarians are some of the biggest supporters. But I know I can count on Comadres y Comics to get the word out. See the press release at the end of the email for all the details.
Spread the word and preorder with your local comic shop!

Last night I was invited to participate in a panel before the Zoot Suit play at LA Mission College. Big thanks to Bob Cucuzza for reaching out and Professor Gustavo Jimenez for their support of my work and highlighting it for the very audience I’m trying to find.
I found myself thinking about my three years at Utterback Middle School when I was in the theater program thanks to Nancy Anaya. I could see the playful energy and the serious commitment to suspend the audience’s disbelief for just a second and allow yourself to be transported to 1943. The brilliance of Luis Valdez works on any stage no matter the size. Raúl Cardona’s portrayal of the infamous Pachuco character is right on par with Edward James Olmos all while making it his own. It’s sold out except for one showing. I highly suggest you catch it while you can.

That’s all I got for this one. I’ll send another newsletter to promote the latest episode of Latinx Press Podcast with Sina Grace!
Have a good weekend!

Good Trouble Comics announces “¡Huelga!: The Stories of Dolores Huerta & Sal Castro”
LOS ANGELES, CA. 05/22/2026 — Good Trouble Comics is proud to announce the upcoming publication of ¡Huelga! The Stories of Dolores Huerta & Sal Castro by Henry Barajas, Louie Chin & Gab Contreras, with cover art by J. Gonzo. Available to order now through Lunar Distribution, ¡Huelga! The Stories of Dolores Huerta & Sal Castro arrives at a critical time for readers seeking to learn about and be empowered by the important history of Latin American leaders fighting for equal rights in America. This work was developed in conjunction with some of education’s most influential curriculum leaders, giving retailers a new opportunity to engage with educators seeking materials for their classrooms, while also providing a perennial entry point for the curious and motivated graphic novel readers in their community.
"A part of me feels robbed that I never got an education that reflected some of the most important accomplishments by Americans who look like me," says ¡Huelga! author Henry Barajas. "I want people to not only know how resilient and important Dolores Huerta was to the labor rights movement that drastically improved the dignity of the farmworker, but I want readers to know she's still out there fighting the good fight."
“This is a literary comic history everyone needs,” said Andrew Aydin, co-founder of Good Trouble Comics and co-author of March and Run. “For too long, Dolores Huerta and Sal Castro have been overlooked in our history, in our libraries, and in our classrooms. I applaud Henry, Louie, Gab, and Gonzo for this incredible work, and I’m honored we have the opportunity to publish it for a national audience for the first time.”

1968 was a turning point in American history. Countless activists were at the forefront of fighting for the rights of migrant farmworkers and East L.A. students, with two in particular standing out: Dolores Huerta and Sal Castro. Originally created for classrooms, ¡Huelga! highlights Latiné historical figures who revolutionized the American farmworker and these stories are now available for all. Critically acclaimed graphic novel historian Henry Barajas (La Voz De M.A.Y.O. Tata Rambo) teams with Louie Chin (Fighting to Belong!) and Gab Contreras (The Deadliest Bouquet) to illuminate the vital stories of West Coast activists making good trouble.
