The Radio Tacoma Newsletter
SPECIAL FRESH WATER EDITION

One of the most important issues of the coming years in the Pacific Northwest will be fresh water. We have always counted on our mountains and our weather as continuing sources for our water, but the ecosystem is changing. Radio Tacoma is committed to investigating ways to protect and restore our local waters and to airing programming about people committed to this work.
Listen to our interview with Sean Arent of Clover Creek Restoration Alliance about the Clover-Chambers Creek watershed and the work being done to restore it.
Listen to the Bioneers episode What Does Water Want? (Bioneers airs new episodes on KTAH Mon-Wed-Fri at 2:00pm)
Watch how Yonkers daylighted the Saw Mill River, restoring an ecosystem in its city center.
Listen to the amazing story Amy Cordalis of the Yurok Tribe tells of the return of salmon to the Klamath River in Oregon after the removal of four dams.
Discover GroundWorkUSA and its work to restore urban waters, including Seattle's daylighting of Thornton Creek that was under a shopping mall.
Listen to Climate Alliance of the South Sound discuss our watersheds and wetlands and the effects of rising waters.
We have been damming and building over our streams and creeks and rivers and aquifers for decades, even centuries. It is time to reverse this process for the health of our waters, our ecosystems, and ourselves. In the coming year, we will be looking at the maps of the streams and creeks hidden under our built environment here in Tacoma and Pierce County and working with local organizations to raise awareness of the possibilities for restoration.
