The Radio Tacoma Newsletter
News from Tacoma’s all-volunteer, low-power community radio station, 101.9

Listen to your mother
Earth Day is April 22, 2026, and for the fifth year Radio Tacoma will be participating in a 24-hour broadcast of the sounds from the TekTekSen Wetlands Marsh on Saturna Island in British Columbia. The best times to hear frogs are from midnight to about 6am and again about 8pm to midnight. Early morning and evening hours feature birds of various kinds (particularly the Red-winged Blackbird). It is a day for what is called "slow radio" when we listen to the voices of those who dwell in the wetlands.
Synergy
Radio Tacoma wants to welcome the programs from a sister station, Northern Spirit Radio in Minnesota, including a recent episode of their show "Spirit in Action" on songs of the Minnesota Uprising with Billy Bragg and other musicians as well as their weekly program Song of the Soul.
Appreciation
Pam Beal, one of the guiding lights of Radio Tacoma, wants to thank her students at Tacoma Community College for producing programming for the station that airs during Climate Talk at 10am MWF. One feature is on environmental education for children, another on light pollution, another on fast fashion, and a fourth on dam removal. And thanks also are due to the wonderful show Climate Chats of the South Sound produced by Climate Alliance of the South Sound as part of their work promoting human and environmental justice.
Community
In the words of eco-philosopher Joanna Macy, "it's all alive; it's all connected," and we here at Radio Tacoma have a mission to encourage those connections between people, between organizations, and between all of us and nature. If you are interested in joining us, email us at info@radiotacoma.org
