KNIGHTSFOIL SCRIPTORIUM III

KNIGHTSFOIL SCRIPTORIUM III ✤ June 2026

A most joyous Pride Month is upon us! The end of May proved to be full of upheavals for me, but I’m feeling hopeful for the future.

A digital drawing of a purple 3-D heart with handlettered blackletter text reading, "bubonic plagued".
real.

Thanks to everyone who came and supported me at the Cryptids + Cider Fae Market! I was fortunate enough to try the fae wine and not be trapped in Faerie forevermore, but it was a close thing. Behold, the Fae Wine.

✤ ART ✤

Since it hasn’t been long since the last SCRIPTORIUM, there isn’t much new art. Instead, let’s have a look back at a few seasonally appropriate pieces…

Digital illustration of two women kissing. One is a knight, the other a lady of the court. The lady is wearing a hennin and a high waisted dress. The knight is wearing plate armor and a tabard. They both have long hair. The color palette is red and pink monochrome. They are surrounded by a red border with handlettered text that reads “with this brief line, I greet thee, valentine.” There are also bleeding heart flowers in the corners.
Faint Heart Never Won Fair Maiden

Faint Heart Never Won Fair Maiden was designed for a Valentine’s greeting card as well as to be displayed as a full size print. Buy this print for your lady love here.

Digital illustration of two men passionately kissing, sitting on the edge of a wooden canopy bed. Above their head is handlettered text in medieval French. The image is predominantly green.
Bisclavret

Bisclavret is of course based on the lais by Marie de France, featuring a bisexual werewolf knight and his boyfriend, the king. It is available here. At events, it also allows me to clock English majors, as the general public has never heard of this poem. The handlettering near the top is a line from the original poem in medieval French. I was delighted to be informed by a certain tumblr user that in modern French the meaning is perhaps a little more raunchy…

Digital illustration of Sir Gawain kneeling, surrounded on one side by Lord Bertilak and Lady Bertilak on the other. She holds the girdle around his neck, while he clings to Gawain’s arm. Gawain holds an axe. The central figures are surrounded by a frame of twisting branches with a stained glass depiction of the hunting scene and the Green Chapel. Handlettered text below them is a Middle English quote from the original text that translates to modern English as “cursed be cowardice and coveting both”.
Hold to the Covenant

Hold to the Covenant is based on my polyamorous read of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. It is littered with motifs and references, and the handletters are in the original Middle English. Fellas, is it poly to ask your wife to seduce a man who’s into you? Link here.

There’s a lot of other queer art on my Inprnt to discover, this is just a brief sampling.

✤ EVENTS ✤

My next event is UTAH PRIDE! Last year this was my single most successful event and I am very much looking forward to it. It was so amazing to connect with so many local queer people in person. Of all the events I did last year, this one impacted me the most.

This year is going to be bigger and better! I have plenty of queer art I didn’t have last year, and a major medieval tent upgrade. At the Fae Market I was able to determine the tent cover doesn’t much impact the interior temperature, so I will be able to have it up for Pride without heatstroke. Major win for my aesthetic sensibilities.

UTAH PRIDE is June 6-7 at Washington Square Park in Salt Lake City.

Alas, I have been waitlisted for SLC Pride, but if I do make it in, I’ll be sure to let the SCRIPTORIUM know.

UPCOMING EVENTS (UTAH, USA):
✤ Utah Pride, June 6-7, SLC
✤ FanX Salt Lake, September 24-26, SLC
✤ yArt Sale, October 10, Ogden
✤ Utah Renaissance Faire, October 16-18, Mona

most queerly,

Emily
