KNIGHTSFOIL SCRIPTORIUM II

KNIGHTSFOIL SCRIPTORIUM II ✤ May 2026

Hail and well met! Another email is upon us. Updates abound this month…

✤ ART ✤

Although I spent a week bedridden with a mysterious plague, I’ve finally been able to get back into illustration this last month. I’m delighted to report progress on a number of pieces!

For a while now, I’ve been interested in illustrating a themed sticker sheet, as opposed to one-off stickers. The theme for this one is medieval + Valentine’s Day. (Typical for me, right?) This was meant to be my Valentine’s Day project but due to certain developments in my personal life I had to put it on the backburner. It seems appropriate, as Faint Heart Never Won Fair Maiden (last year’s Valentine’s piece) didn’t get finished until July. Perhaps my Valentine’s pieces are cursed with tardiness.

Fortunately this one is only two months late! For this project I handlettered a set of seven medieval-ish phrases in blackletter. These phrases were then applied to variously colored seasonal candy shapes. The illustration is complete, but I might not get these manufactured right away. They should be the perfect size to accompany a standard size card in the mail within the same envelope.

A crop of a larger digital illustration. Variously colored hearts with handlettered blackletter read various medieval-ish sentiments. The background is pink with hearts and letters with Valentines inside.
a little sneak peek before I get these printed…

Another project I finally got back to is my foiled Fjord Stone print! At FanX 2025, I noticed many artists selling foiled prints. I was very interested in intentionally making such a print designed for foil. Unfortunately I hit a road block early on and disliked how the illustration was progressing. I’ve finally gotten past that point, though the anatomy still leaves something to be desired while it’s in progress. The other big question is blue or red foil? We shall see.

I’ve been wanting to do a Critical Role piece for years, but now I have a deadline. Travis Willingham is coming to FanX 2026 along with some of the other members of the cast, and I’m hoping to get a print of this piece signed by him while I’m vending there this year.

I’ve also been chipping away at a few other pieces, namely a new website bio portrait. It’s a dropcap inspired by a medieval illustration of Marie de France. She was the poet who wrote Bisclavret, which I have also illustrated. You’ll notice that the dropcap is the letter E, which also happens to be the first letter of my name.

Below is the illustration in question. I spent about 45 minutes trying to find what manuscript this is originally from with no success. It’s used on the Penguin Classics cover of Marie de France’s Lais but it’s hard to find an exact citation. If you know, gentle reader, I would love to hear from you.

A photo of an illustration from a medieval manuscript. A dropcap capital E frames a woman, likely Marie de France, sitting in a chair. Next to her is a table with (possibly?) books on it, though it is hard to tell. She is reading a book held in her hands.
Illustration of Marie de France (I was unable to find which specific manuscript this is from, so I don’t know the artist’s name, either).
A low resolution scan or photograph of a manuscript page. It is the zoomed out view of the previous image and also includes handwritten text, possibly archaic French?
I found this low res image of the full page, but the bibliography with it was… inadequate.

✤ EVENTS ✤

On another topic, the Wonderland Bazaar was a great start to this year’s events season! It was a whimsical wonderland, complete with vendors in themed attire and Alice in Wonderland decorations. Thanks to everyone who supported me there!

The next event (this Saturday!) you can find me at will be the debut of the medieval inspired tent cover! It is at last time to see how the tent cover performs in real conditions. I want to see how functional it is and whether or not I’ll get heatstroke if I use it for Pride. I’m planning on getting some documentation during this event as well so everyone can see the finished effect.

This event is a faerie themed art market at a cidery! Due to Utah’s draconian liquor laws, this event will be 21+ only and you will likely need your ID for entry. However, the cidery hosting the event is whipping up a special Fae Wine especially for the event, which I am very interested in trying. Hopefully I won’t become trapped in Faerie in the process…

A graphic with more information about the art market I'll be selling at. May 23rd, free entry, 4-10 pm. 21+ event. Venue: The Garten Cider House and Bar, 417 N 400 W SLC UT 84103.

Lastly, I’m utterly delighted to announce I will be vending at the Utah Renaissance Faire! This is my very first renaissance faire and the main reason I decided to make a tent cover. While I’ve attended many, I’ve never sold my art at one. This is such a dream come true, and I’m really excited!!!
