Mix Tapes / Mixed Tapes

Tomato / Tomato

Just like every trendy old hipster trying to figure out how to handle everything right now, I started making mixed tapes, again. I have also been learning how to Karaoke on my own terms, and using the vast library of free YouTube karaoke versions of songs I like to sing. Also, thanks to YouTube, there’s sometimes situational comedy gifts, like today:

I’m using a new mic I got from Trash Talk Audio. It’s made from an old payphone mouth/earpiece and it makes me sound like I’m on the phone. It’s funny to imagine some songs as phone calls someone’s making to another person, or like a message being left on their answering machine, when people still used those.

Anyway I started making a mix tape a few weeks ago, just to see if I could. I bought a CD/ cassette player from eBay and thought I’d put it through it’s paces. Bought a set of blank tapes, busted out some of Kevin’s old CD zipper cases, figured out how to record myself singing karaoke songs and burning it on CD so I could put it on the tape… all that kind of stuff.

So here it is.

I only made one. Actually I made one right before this one that was terrible because I forgot about leveling the sound between tracks, yikes. So I tried to make a better one, (this one). I’ve been listening to it and I forgot how sometimes tapes can sound weird. It used to be something that bugged me, still does a little bit, ha. But also? I like it as a reminder that it’s here and physical and imperfect. Anyway if you want it, I listed it here.

(If you want it, but for less money (or even no money?)— just write me about it. I can be bargained with for this random thing)

Hope you are having a decent week.

Your friend,

E
