the garden gate, vol. 9 🌿

a quick word from the gardener
I’ve been noticing lately how both the prodigal son and the elder brother live inside me. The rebel and the manager. (read the full story here)
This morning, my prayers sounded like they were coming from the manager — my elder brother self, my inner critic. Her cry was familiar: “Don’t let me get lost. Keep me on the right path.” Underneath it, I could hear fear.
The fear of failing.
The fear of being wrong.
The fear of going astray.
And He answered me so gently:
Katelynn, you are holy and dearly loved. I see all of who you are.
I will never leave you. I will guide you in paths of righteousness.
And when you wander, I will bring you back and bind up your wounds.
Every moment of straying can be redeemed.
I am that mighty.
One day, we will look back together, and you’ll be able to say:
“Thank you even for that failure.”
Do not be afraid.

today’s invitation
Make a list.
Write down three ordinary, physical things that bring you joy.
The add three simple activities that delight you.
Today, choose one of them. When you encounter it — or when you do it — pause long enough to let it matter, like water moving up a tree from the roots.
Let this small practice nourish your soul and grow tomorrow’s desire.
