the garden gate, vol. 8 🌿

a quick word from the gardener
Every time the weather turns softer — the relief of fall after a heavy summer, or spring easing in after winter — I notice how much lighter it feels just to be.
I don’t have to push so hard. Delight feels possible again: the crispness of a morning breeze, sunshine warming my face after weeks of gray. My whole body exhales.
In Viral Justice, Ruha Benjamin writes of “the weather” as more than sky and seasons. She means the climate of our lives together. Chronic stressors — racism, poverty, exclusion — that literally weather the body. This kind of weather isn’t seasonal, but structural.
So as the first signs of fall arrive, I find myself wondering: if life is easier when the weather is gentler, how might I help create better weather for someone else? What would it mean to soften the air they walk through — to make space less harsh, more breathable?
Maybe it’s as small as a word of encouragement, a pause to really listen, a willingness to carry a bit of someone else’s weight. Maybe it’s naming injustice and leaning toward repair.
The weather shifts with the seasons.
But it can shift with us, too.
notes to explore:
the walker + swim in the depths
Two notes in conversation: an imagined lake where Jesus invited me deeper, and a song that echoed the same mystery.
another prayer for the children
That they would know God not just in words, but in experience.
delight: under a quilt

This moment is worth that.
I am worth that.

today’s invitation
Stay light.
Stay nimble.
This could mean a lot of different things — open your heart to the Spirit.
What does this mean for you today?
Thank you for going down the path with me today. If this is your first time, I encourage you to check out this note explaining the idea of the digital garden and what's up with the weird title 😄.
Peace to you! ✌️
