Milwaukee weekend: See the Moon Festival at dusk
Free Dino Days and Jazz today; triathlon roads close early, and Gothic Market tickets must be bought ahead.
Good morning—today has four useful lanes: free dinosaurs, a lunch-hour concert, Jazz after work, or a ticketed lakefront show. For the weekend, make one decision now: be at Catalano Square around 7:30 PM Friday or Saturday. That is the window that shows the moon in daylight, through sunset, and fully lit.

Use today’s full plan for the live details. Milwaukee Public Museum’s Dino Days finale runs 11 AM–3 PM during the 10 AM–5 PM free day; reserve first because walk-up admission is not guaranteed. Jon Rouse plays Tunes@Noon from noon–1 PM. Cathedral Square Market starts at 3 PM, followed by Old Sam and the Teardrops with Lindy Hop MKE from 6–9 PM. Goo Goo Dolls and Neon Trees begin at 7 PM at BMO Pavilion.
Friday or Saturday: see the moon change
The free Third Ward Moon Festival runs 5–11 PM Friday, 10 AM–11 PM Saturday and 9 AM–9 PM Sunday around Catalano Square. Arrive around 7:30 Friday or Saturday for the useful version: NASA imagery in daylight, the transition through the roughly 8 PM sunset, then the illuminated square after dark. If you want dinner at a specific Third Ward table, reserve it; otherwise, use the festival food trucks.
Treat USA Triathlon as a separate trip
USA Triathlon Nationals starts at 10:32 AM Friday and 6:30 AM Saturday and Sunday. If you are watching, go early and choose parking before entering the controlled lakefront area. If you are not, treat the race as a road closure rather than something to stack with the Moon Festival. Discovery World is closed Saturday and Sunday.
The indoor choice needs a ticket first
The Gothic Market runs noon–5 PM Saturday and Sunday at Baird Center. It is the contained indoor route, but not a walk-in fallback: advance tickets are required and cash entry is unavailable.
Weather and getting around: Saturday is currently the cleanest long outdoor window. Friday looks usable, but sensitive visitors should check AQI because lake-breeze ozone could worsen. Sunday keeps a shower or storm chance. Forecasts and event status can move; the live guides will carry the morning update.
