Milwaukee weekend: Choose your Irish Fest day

$10 Irish Fest tonight; Friday adds Modest Mouse, Saturday has the biggest menu, and rain may change the order.

Good morning—Irish Fest opens tonight, but the useful decision is which day gets your full lakefront trip. Saturday is now the wettest window; Sunday has become the cleaner weather pivot.

Tonight: use the $10 preview

Milwaukee Irish Fest opens from 5–10 PM with partial grounds and Main Gate entry only. Admission is $10, or free with a school-supply donation outside the Main Gate. If the afternoon showers linger, wait until closer to 7 PM. Jazz in the Park is the lower-commitment outdoor alternative; Today’s full plan has the live timing.

Friday: choose before dinner

Irish Fest runs 4–11 PM. Pick the 8 PM lane—Gaelic Storm or Altan—before you reach the grounds. Or keep the night in Westown for Modest Mouse: Riverside doors open at 7 PM for the 8 PM show. Do not plan to split the night between the lakefront and Riverside.

Saturday: pick one neighborhood

Irish Fest runs noon–11 PM and has the deepest lineup, but Saturday carries an 80% shower and storm chance. For a shorter plan, choose Deer District for Hoop It Up from 10 AM–6 PM, Veterans Park for Strength in the City, or Peck Pavilion for the free TRUE Skool Park Jam from noon–8 PM. All are outdoors. Pick one area, keep the timing loose, and recheck the forecast before leaving.

Sunday: keep the pivot simple

The current forecast is mostly cloudy near 81 with only a 20% shower or storm chance. Irish Fest runs 11 AM–9 PM, Hoop It Up continues 10 AM–6 PM, and the free ArtXpress bus mural unveiling runs 1–3 PM at Milwaukee Art Museum.

Before Irish Fest: the Clybourn bridge is open again. Leave backpacks and every kind of water bottle—including empty or sealed bottles—at home. Clear bags may be no larger than 12 × 12 × 6 inches; smaller non-clear bags may be no larger than 6 × 9 inches. On Sunday, the North and South Gates close at 7:30 PM.

Stop by and say hi: I’ll be volunteering with our Irish setters in Celtic Canines Friday from 4 PM to dusk, Saturday from noon–5 PM, and Sunday from 11 AM–5 PM.

Next Wednesday: the free Milwaukee Night Market returns August 19 from 5–9 PM.
