Good morning—your weekend starts tonight. East Town has two free 6–9 PM choices: Jazz in the Park at Cathedral Square or the Hispanic Heritage Celebration at the Marcus Center. Saturday is the bigger commitment: Black Arts Fest at the lakefront or TUSK indoors at The Pabst. Here’s the cleanest way to decide.

Tonight: pick your East Town plan

Jazz in the Park is the classic after-work choice: the Cathedral Square market begins at 3 PM, then Ivy Ford Band presents Midnight in Chicago from 6–9 PM. It is free and rain or shine.

The free, all-ages Hispanic Heritage Celebration runs 6–9 PM on the Marcus Center’s South Outdoor Grounds, with music, dance, food and family programming. Arrive by about 6:30. Choose Jazz for the park-night atmosphere; choose the Marcus Center for the stronger family plan.

Saturday: make the 8 PM decision now

Black Arts Fest MKE is the full-day commitment: noon–10 PM at the Summerfest Grounds, with the Latimore Brothers at 7 PM and Dave Hollister at 8 PM. General admission is $30 before fees; seniors are $20, youth tickets are $12, and children seven and younger are free. The festival is rain or shine.

TUSK at The Pabst is the simpler indoor evening: doors at 7 PM, show at 8 PM. That overlaps directly with Dave Hollister, so pick one rather than trying to combine them. Choose Black Arts Fest if you want to build Saturday around one big experience. Choose TUSK if the forecast stays unsettled or you only want an evening plan.

Friday and Sunday in 60 seconds

Friday is lighter: keep it flexible with Food Truck Friday, a museum afternoon or the Great Hunger Book Sale. Sunday’s 21+ Vivent Health Drag Race & Bar Crawl runs 2–6 PM in Walker’s Point. Otherwise, Sunday is the weekend’s best outdoor window.

Weather and getting around: Friday should be workable for most of the day, with a 40% chance of showers developing after 3 PM and rain and thunderstorms more likely Friday night. Saturday’s wettest window comes before 1 PM, followed by a much drier evening; Sunday looks like the best outdoor day, with sunshine and a high near 75°F. Black Arts Fest is rain or shine, while TUSK is the clean indoor Saturday alternative. The Clybourn Street Bridge remains closed, removing that westbound river crossing; use Wisconsin Avenue or Michigan Street.

One place to eat: Soban at 776 N. Milwaukee Street is a practical counter-service Korean stop after work Thursday or before TUSK Saturday. It is quick enough that dinner does not become the night’s logistical problem.
