Study in Red

A study in red, a free zine shelf, and spells for anyone who looked my way.

Out in Lake Merritt at a clothing Swap

I've been working on something new that has me seeing red everywhere. The weekend started on Friday at a clothing swap at Lake Merritt, where I brought along some things that were no longer serving me. Then on Saturday I took an impromptu train up to Sacramento. It had been over five months since my last train ride, a way too long hiatus from something I love so much, and I wanted to go look at art and just be in a different space for a day.

Train Travel is the Best way to go!
So many interesting pieces.

I visited the Crocker Art Museum for the second time and found an entire wing I hadn't seen before. The woodworking in there was out of this world. It continues to amaze me how much more detailed things used to be made inside people's houses, compared to the box-like houses we live in and manufacture today. I ended up challenging myself to do a study in red, hunting for it through the different areas of the museum, and I pulled my favorite finds into a collage I'm calling Study in Red. I also got to talking with one of the docents, and we riffed on how fun it would be to throw a themed party at the museum where everyone dresses up inspired by a different work of art.

Relaxing at the Sacramento Cemetery.

It was almost 100 degrees in Sacramento, so when it came time to eat I wanted something light and refreshing. I found a restaurant new to me called Octopus Baja and stuck to the vegan options, and the tacos were very tasty. The chef even treated me to their vegan dessert. On my way through town I also stumbled onto a gothic fair that just happened to be going on at the Sacramento cemetery, so I stopped by and did some journaling.

You can see mine they are both in the vellum overlays!
Get your own Copy in my Etsy shop!

My local library started a little free zine section, so I promptly printed a couple of copies of Version 1 and Version 2 of Kiss & Tell and brought them over. If you'd like a copy of your own, I've re-listed some on my Etsy.
