This weekend in Greenwich: the town's fireworks, a 250th on the Fourth, and Sousa on the Christ Church organ

Morning, Greenwich. The nation turns 250 this year, and the town has chosen to mark it the way it marks most things, thoroughly and without much fuss. There are fireworks midweek, a full Fourth of July program on Saturday, and on Sunday a half hour of Stars and Stripes Forever played on a church organ, which is either exactly your speed or precisely not.

Best for families this weekend: the Bell Ring and Pancake Breakfast on the Fourth is the gentle, early, all-ages start to the day before the heat arrives.

Thursday, July 2

Fireworks Displays. The town lists its holiday fireworks for tonight, the traditional pre-Fourth show that lets you keep the holiday itself for a slower morning. Free, outdoors, arrive with time to settle in. Town details.

A water main break closed part of Lake Avenue. Police routed traffic around the repair, the sort of unglamorous disruption that decides your route more than any calendar does. Source: Greenwich Time.

Saturday, July 4

Independence Day Association of Greenwich Fourth of July, America's 250th Birthday Celebration. The association that has run this holiday in town for generations folds it into the semiquincentennial this year. Free, outdoors, the whole town turns out. Town details.

Bell Ring and Pancake Breakfast. An early, unhurried Fourth of July tradition, bells and breakfast before the day gets loud. Family-friendly, morning. Town details.

Sunday, July 5

The Christ Church Greenwich Organ Celebrates America's 250th. Associate Director of Music Jonathan Vaughn plays a 30-minute program of Americana, from Fanfare for the Common Man to The Stars and Stripes Forever, with lemonade and American-themed snacks after. Yes, a patriotic organ recital. Yes, it is earnestly good. Free, all ages. Town details.

La Joie de Vivre Polo Experience at the Greenwich Polo Club. A curated afternoon at the polo grounds for those inclined to spend a Sunday that way, and in Greenwich a fair number are. Adults 21+, ticketed. Eventbrite.

On the Horizon

The Greenwich Townscape Mural debuts Thursday, July 9, with live music from On the Trail Bluegrass, part of the town's rolling America 250 program. A good excuse to see what the artists made of the place. Town details.
