This weekend in Greenwich: four days of Sidewalk Sales on the Avenue, a patriotic jazz cabaret, and a barn dance at the Point

Morning, Greenwich. The Avenue clears its shelves this weekend, nearly eighty stores at once, which is the closest this town comes to a public spectacle. Between the sidewalk racks and a barn dance out at the Point, there is more to do than the quiet week after a holiday usually offers. Here is the weekend, sorted.

Best for families this weekend: Science Solvers at the Bruce on Sunday (ages 4 and up) and the free Americana Family Jamboree and Barn Dance at Greenwich Point on Sunday afternoon.

All Weekend Long

Greenwich Chamber Sidewalk Sales, Thursday through Sunday, up and down Greenwich Avenue and the side streets. Nearly eighty retailers move their racks to the pavement, 9:30 AM to 6 PM Thursday through Saturday and 10 AM to 5 PM Sunday. New this year: a Non-Storefront Vendor Village on the Wallace Center and Board of Education lawns, and a Nonprofit Village that debuts Sunday. Park in the Pickwick Plaza garages, one at 200 Greenwich Avenue with an entrance on West Elm Street. All ages. Greenwich Free Press has the details.

Thursday, July 9

Bruce Socials: Drinks and Desserts with Brian Levy at the Bruce Museum, 1 Museum Drive (downtown). An evening with the award-winning cookbook author, dessert first, in the museum's new building. The kind of Thursday that assumes you have opinions about pastry. Adults. Bruce Museum.

In Case You Missed It

A traditional Chinese restaurant is coming to West Putnam Avenue. Lunar is being opened by a team led by Bill Xia, who makes the case plainly: "Right now there are more Chinese restaurants closing. Greenwich needs a traditional Chinese restaurant, and we have a very strong team." A real kitchen betting against the trend. Source: Greenwich Free Press.

The town's Scraps to Soil composting program expands this week. Starting Thursday, July 9, new smart food-scrap bins go in at Binney Park and along Greenwich Avenue, a quiet piece of infrastructure for residents already sorting their kitchen waste. Source: Greenwich Free Press.

An AI-based school wants to open downtown. Alpha School has gone to Planning and Zoning to convert the retail building at 20 East Elm Street into a school for children through eighth grade, a use change that would take a storefront off the Avenue's edge. Source: Greenwich Free Press.

Saturday, July 11

Jazz Cabaret: America the Beautiful at St. Barnabas Church, Lake Avenue (north Greenwich). Vocalist Christi Bye and a pianist mark the country's 250th with an intimate evening of jazz, storytelling, and patriotic reflection. The 250th done in a register Greenwich actually prefers, which is to say indoors and unhurried. Tickets.

Next Stop Comedy at Greenwich Brewing Company. A rotating lineup of comedians in the taproom, a looser Saturday for anyone who has had enough of the sidewalk crowds. 21+. Tickets.

Sunday, July 12

Americana Family Jamboree and Barn Dance at Greenwich Point Park, 293 Sound Beach Avenue (Old Greenwich). Live honest music under the trees past the old concession stand at 4 PM, sing-along voice and dancing shoes encouraged. Free with regular park admission, and if the weather turns it moves indoors to Bosco's Bar and Grill in Old Greenwich. Family-friendly. Friends of Greenwich Point.

Science Solvers: Build a Dinosaur at the Bruce Museum, 1 Museum Drive (downtown). A hands-on Sunday science session for the younger set, free with admission. Ages 4 and up. Bruce Museum.

On the Horizon

The Parks and Recreation Summer Concert Series continues with Hey Now, a Hall and Oates tribute, on Tuesday, July 15, and Jazz on the Sound on Sunday, July 19. Both are town concerts, both worth the calendar note. Details on the town calendar.
